Not necessarily. Crazy could autofill the minor league systems of the new teams with fictional players.

    Redsfan,
That's a possibility as well. I do have to admit though, that if i was taking one of the expansion teams, I would like to have a little say in which minor leaguers I get.

Between rounds one and two - established teams can protect three more players.
30 picks in the second round - again no more than one player can be taken from a team in a round.
Between rounds two and three - established teams can protect three additional players.
14 picks in the third round - no more than one player can be taken from a team in this round as well.

By the end of the draft, you will have protected 31 of your players - 14 teams will have lost three players, while 16 will have lost only 2.
The new teams will have 37 players: enough for a 25 man roster and 12 minor leaguers.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with pre-draft deals made with the expansion teams (a la Bobby Abreu/Kevin Stocker trade during 93) so that it is agreed that the team will not select a player in return for something. The teams could also select a player with the ability to trade that player to another system in return for something.

    Just my thoughts.
This looks like a good plan.

I'd be for expansion if we went with what Brak has said. I was under the assumption that an expansion would mean that we'd protect 15 or so players, not 25.

I like to nominate Hammer for the right to start the new expansion club. BTW any ideas what cities/states/countries have contacted about having the team?

I hear that Chicago is upset that the Cubs moved to Baltimore and became the Bombers. They put a claim in for the first expansion team. San Diego is in negotiations for the 2nd expansion team.

Ok...we have a situation. HafDawg resigned from the league leaving the Dodgers without a GM. He hasn't been active...so this will give us a chance to find a more active GM. Besides the expansion teams, we only have one team open. The Dodgers are a bad team, and to be honest, this team will be difficult to fill. It may be possible to find an inexperienced GM to take them on, but they probably won't stay in the leage for long. This is what I would like to do, and I'd like to hear your opinions on it. I have 3 good GMs in line, and they all want an expansion team. I would like to disband the Dodgers, and add 3 expansion teams instead of just 2. The question is what happens to the Dodgers players. Their ML team isn't much, but they do have some good prospects. We could leave them open to be drafted by the expansion teams, or we could somehow distribute them amongst the remaining 29 teams prior to the draft. We could dump them into free agency... except that may b a problllem since there are some top prosects on the Dodgers team. Do you guys have any ideas?

I like doing the 3 expansion teams idea. How about a 1 round draft for the 29 teams to get one of the Dodgers players. The rest of the players are elgible for the expansion draft. Whatever isn't take in the 1 rd draft or the expansion draft, goes to free agency (first come first serve).

Lets do a random draft order, not based on anything.

A one round dispersal draft would work for me in this situation with the rest being FAs.

I assume this is done before the expansion draft, meaning both are done before the FA period, right?

just leave the team as is and fill it. Would not be right for a top team to get a great spec. I traded 2 to the Dodgers. With the prospects we should be able to fill it. with all the leagues posted on ootp we should be able to find one person..

But again it is your call Crazy. Do what is best for the league. But in no way would I put those specs in a draft.

    Disperal draft for one round

Then go with Brak's Model for the draft itsself.

Even if a top team does get a great spect from the Dodgers, they would have to protect that player for the expansion draft. So they would use one of their protecton slots.

Let's do a dispersal draft like Rock suggested. You guys know I'm up for anything creative, different, and exciting for the league.

I know it was talked about, but did we decide on if we are going to get compenstation for certain players that we lose in the expansion draft.
