I think, at the very least, they should quit doing it by regions within the states.

Now that is really stupid and leads to corrupt politics with both sides trying to skew the regions to benefit their party.

The electoral college should, at the very least, just go with the entire state's popular vote.

Today you don't. (Well, technically you do, but there's really no point in voting for Nader or any of those other people on the ballot...)

But you had a choice between Hilary and Obama earlier in the year, McCain, Huckabee, and Romney if you're voting on the Republican side.

And, like I said, there's more than just the Presidential elections on the ballot.

Yes the primaries but then its reduced to just one from the major parties which makes it two! The illusion of choice!!

The lesser parties actually play a huge role in the election. They steal votes from major parties in order to get their agendas in office. So they are affecting it as well. That gives it a little more of a variety

No but I was a huge Nadar guy because he was the only candidate saying what I want to hear. I had Nadar posters everywhere and did my part to get the vote out. When I went to vote, they said I haven't registered which I know I did.

It's an illusion because you only have one person out of two to vote for ultimately!! Is this really th best we can do! The primary argument is a weak! Lets say I voted for Clinton in the primary. No she's out. Wow!! Now I am in the exact same situation I am in now!!! You have two choices for president and its ****ing stupid!!

What do you propose? A large conglomerate of a bunch of different choices and the eventual winner gets into the White House because he or she wins 15 percent of the vote?

I think this aspect of the system works out fine.

I wouldn't mind seeing a third party gain enough popularity that we have a third choice, but for the most part it's ok.

I'm in agreement with NYGF in regards to the electoral college, however.

I don't think reeferboy proposes anything. Just that given the current system, he should be allowed not to vote if he doesn't want to. At least, that's what I've gathered throughout this thread.

That's what sparked the conversation, and despite previous posts I don't think he should vote for the President if he doesn't want to, but he seems to be strongly opinionated against the current 2 party system.

I'm not a big believer in complaining just to complain, so if you're going to call something stupid I feel you need to have a better idea of what to replace it with, otherwise you're complaining just to complain.

I never said he doesn't have the right not to vote. I think that's totally his choice. I just think it's unfair for him to then criticize the choices made by whoever's elected
