crap. I don't mind losing Germano, I get the impression he's nothing more than a AAAA pitcher with as many times as he failed at the major league level for us. (Granted that's no guarantee he won't get things together)
I don't like losing Chick after all i've read about him after we got him for Ismael Valdez last year. But I guess you have to pay a price when you're in a pennant race and desperate for offense.

I suppose this makes Burroughs officially available

Providence, this deal is almost on the level of Kazmir for Zambrano, in terms of what you're giving up. Randa isn't going to be as good moving from GAB to Petco, and they gave away two of their three best pitching prospects in the deal. This deal instantly gives the Reds some solid pitching in their minor-leagues, and with Randa on the way out anyways, this deal was an absolute steal for the Reds. I'll miss Randa, but he's really not much of a loss.

Randa was your classic, solid stopgap, and nothing more. Good year, but even better talent on the way in EdE.

    Great move!

BTW, I deleted your duplicate post Cincy.

Is Randa really worth that though? He's having a good year, but I'm not sure he's worth those specs.
    I aim to try

No, Randa isn't worth those prospects, but the Pads are in the division race and if they can get into the playoffs, they could make some noise with Peavy and Eaton at the top of the rotation. They needed offense, and while Randa is probably going to put up last year's numbers instead of this year's numbers for them, he's still a lot better than Burroughs.

I said it was a good deal, but until the prospects come along, it's too early to tell. These guys could blow out their arms or something, and then what? It's good because Randa is not a guy from your system, so you didn't really lose much, but to say this deal is a steal is premature. One just has to wait and see what these guys do. When/If these guys work out, then it's a steal. If they fall apart, then it's a wash.

The bottom line is that this is a no lose trade for the Reds...if the guys work out, then it a great trade. If they don't work out, then they it's a wash because they didn't give up something that was theirs to begin with or part of their future.

Chick projects to a top of the rotation guy, and Germano projects to a solid fourth or fifth starter. Either way, the Reds were in need of good pitching prospects, and that's what they got.

where do these guys rank in comparison to all prospects? not just Padres...that could be a reflection of a mediocre system. I'm not saying it is, but it could be.

Neither of these guys were even in the top 100. The Padres only had 1 guy in the top 100 and he's a 2nd baseman. So it's not a great system.
