  1. Mike Leake Appreciation

    Yes, it's seven starts and it's only May, but no matter what happens from here on out, this kid has been great and delivered beyond expectations.

    He had some trouble nailing down the MLB strikezone, but from his third start out he has only walked 8 batters. He's only allowed 36 hits in 46.2 innings pitched. He has 6 quality starts in 7 attempts. Leake's GB-FB ratio has been great (77-60.) And he has pitched 7 innings in his four of his starts, with the lowest thrown being 6 innings. ...
  2. My 2010 summer TV list

    I'm a huge fan of television; and as you all know, summer is always the best place to catch up on stuff you just haven't had time to watch during the year. Here are the shows I'm planning to watch during the 2010 summer season.

    Mad Men - I've just finished the DVD of season 1 of Mad Men and have two seasons to go before the new season begins on July 25. That gives me just a little over two months to watch two dozen or so hour-long episodes and I think I can do it. The first season started ...

  3. Base-Run Ratio

    This statistic I created is exactly what its name says it is: a ratio between bases made and runs scored. The formula is:

    BRR = (SLB + SB) / R
    ...SLB = Slugging Bases = (1*1B) + (2*2B) + (3*3B) + (4*HR)
    ...SB = Stolen Bases
    ...R = Runs Scored

    Let's look at Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and their BRRs, with BRRPAs (BRR per Plate Appearance) in parentheses, over the last four years.

    JETER
    2006 - 2.839 (0.024)
    2007 - 2.980 (0.029) ...
  4. Music and Personality: How They go Hand in Hand.

    As everyone pretty much knows, I have two passions in life. They are music and sports. Can you ever tell someones personality by listening to their IPod Touch or conversations about songs they like or hate? Virtually anyone can relate to music in their own unique way. They have the songs that pump you up for a big date, event or interview. They have songs that relaxes you or chillin. Songs that make you get up and dance like a fool. Even the songs that you can kick back and say you can relate too. ...

  5. An update on the Canadians

    How are the Canadian baseball players doing so far in the 2010 season? Let's examine.

    Joey Votto

    (Toronto, ON)

    Votto is enjoying his usual decent season as the mainstay in the Reds lineup. He has played in all 28 of the team's games to this point and his numbers are right in line ...
