Not necessarily because the players who were moved to new teams were moved AFTER 2009. So, the Angels were good because K-rod was with them for 2009. So, it's not really 100% fair to do it that way. Because the rosters are supposed to be this year's, why not go with what the real draft order will be?

I think the teams that lost a player in FA (not the silent auction) should get a comp pick at the end of the 1st in the order used by MLB in determining picks (They use a formula and a list is available) while using the MLB draft order

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

I know you were potentially interested in using comp picks, using the Elias Sports Formula for rating players I made an order using all the FA's i believe you guys transferred: (Guys in Bold are Class A FA's that were signed in the Silent Auction for more than 5 million, I personally don't think they should get a comp pick but I'll leave that up to you all)

    Comp Picks

#31 LAA for Mark Texiera 98.750
#32 Milwaukee for CC Sabathia 98.070
#33 LAD for Manny Ramirez for 93.333
#34 Toronto for AJ Burnett 90.038
#35 LAA for Francisco Rodriguez 87.921
#36 Seattle for Raul Ibanez 83.784
#37 NYY for Andy Pettite 81.322
#38 Arizona for Orlando Hudson 80.357
#39 Philadelphia for Pat Burrell 80.208
    # 40 Milwaukee for Ben Sheets 78.596

He makes it no secret why he's intent on comp.

I'm being honest about it, if there will be comp next year and beyond, and we are basing this on real rosters, real salaries, real draft order, having a real or close to real comp system seems only just

so a comp pick for you but not for others... all do not have the guy they had last year. I think the Commishes should decide if they are going to give compensatory draft picks for FAs or not. Some online leagues do, some don't. Whichever they decide should be applied evenly to the league, whether Tex signed in real life and Manny didn't YET, or not.

I personally like the simplicity of dealing with a pending FA as a GM. Trade him or let him go. Comp picks are needless complexity for me, but that said... I do love TPSL.

The difference in my view they had a chance to get him back in FA, but I think I'm being open and honest about this so take it down a notch, and i'm open to anything

I just was stating my opinion, its up the commishes on what they do, I was just making it easier for them. Also NYGF said earlier in the thread they were planning on doing FA Comp in the future so thats not the issue here

Again, if we had the oppurtunity to trade, resign, or let him go that would be one thing but we never got that oppurtunity, thats the reason I'm in favor of FA comp this year. And of course it has to do with me losing 2 of my best players but I think the logic is still solid

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

Just let me say one thing. I just read this thread, and from it I know this much.

If you're planning on allowing people to trade picks, comp is going to get REALLY thick NYGF. You best have a really straight layout before you start it, or there's going to be a LOT of arguing... with the picks being traded back and forth to boot, it'll get really messy and hard to keep track of. What OM says has a valid point: comp does serve to be a bit confusing at times, and unless you have it all laid out, it might just make things more drawn out and confusing if not done efficiently...

If you're going to allow pick trading, I would just suggest you make sure you have everything the way you want it if you're definite about adding comp. Because if the layout has any flaws or walkarounds... someone will find it...

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

Nick, this are the assumptions I had made and hopefully the commishes can tell me if I'm wrong

    1) 2010 is the only draft in where picks will be allowed to be traded
    2) Comp will be in effect for the 2011 season
    3) Will be based off of TPSL Comp with revisions

I agree with this. It makes more sense to do it this way for sure.

I guess I had no idea on the 2010 rule then.

That's good, because if he planned on trading picks WHILE doing comp, good luck to that...

As I responded before, the 2009 rosters were completely jumbled. For example, there were guys like:

    Cleveland had CC all year
    Texas had Matt Cain
LAA had Gallardo, Kazmir, and Valverde

    and MANY more.

The rosters were so jumbled, and so many moves were made, that teams that were dominant last year may not be in the same shape that their record would make you believe.

Yeah..I completely forgot about that. The real life order seems the most honorable route to go, then.

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

Yeah, we talked about it for a while, and the only options that seemed fair to everyone would be this, or doing it completely randomly. But randomly would also allow a chance for the best teams to get better picks than teams who need it. So, we decided that this was our best choice.
