Draft 2010 Draft ideas and information

I haven't finished editing the draft class, I will do that before the spring training sim. I will officially start the draft thread after the spring training sim, and it will be held in the game at its usual time in the middle of the season.

Just letting everyone know how it's going to work: I am going to do the draft order akin to last year's real life records. I know this way sucks, but if anyone has a better idea, please voice it here. All the other ways I thought of doing it have a flaw. I considered randomizing it, but I thought this way would be at least a LITTLE more fair.

Here's the order for last year's real life records:

    1. Washington
    2. Seattle
    3. San Diego
    4. Pittsburgh
    5. Baltimore
    6. San Francisco
    7. Atlanta
    8. Cincinnati
    9. Colorado
    10. Detroit
    11. Kansas City
    12. Oakland
    13. Texas
    14. Cleveland
    15. Arizona
    16. Florida
    17. Los Angeles (N)
    18. Houston
    19. St. Louis
    20. Toronto
    21. Minnesota
    22. New York (A)
    23. New York (N)
    24. Chicago (A)
    25. Milwaukee
    26. Philadelphia
    27. Boston
    28. Tampa Bay
    29. Chicago (N)
    30. Los Angeles (A)

The draft class will be somewhat stocked with talent, because I feel like talent is a bit lacking in the league. If anyone has ideas on how to do the draft order or thoughts on the class, feel free to post them here.

We should adopt the same system that the NHL did after the lockout so using real MLB 2006-2008 playoff appearances and 1st overall picks (I'll do all the work GF and LJ)

I like this way of doing the draft. It's a fair way to do it.

Considering we're molding the rosters to real life rosters I think it makes the most sense to go with this year's real draft order.

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

If you use the real draft order, you should add sandwich picks for teams that lost Class A guys (Cause I get a bad draft pick cause of Tex, and Krod) but don't get the comp I'd get in real life

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

I only think the sandwich pick idea is fair if you're going to implement compensatory draft picks for free agency like the real life draft does every year.

Otherwise you're essentially doing that this year then not doing it anymore.

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

My understanding was that a comp system will be in place in the future, but also Hollywood, this year teams didn't have the control to resign the guys.

If i had let Tex and Krod go thats one thing, but they were taken from me, one time comp wouldn't be bad since my pick was affected by them, but i'm under the impression comp is coming eventually

Then I think it'd be fair to match compensation with the real draft, or to do it however you'd do it in the future (using real statistics)

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

well i'm not going to be taking 1st rounders from teams that signed them. that's unfair i think. everyone should get a pick in the inaugural draft. but after that we'll implement the real comp. more on that next offseason

I think that's fair, considering teams didn't have control over signing these FAs.

Sandwich picks seems fine to me.

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

Maybe if a team lost a bunch (like Miwaukee) you can add an extra comp pick than what would normally be allotted but its the 1st draft and everyone should keep their orginal pick

That's the game of baseball, they'll live. You can't go off and fix the draft to suit every team that lucked out in free agency. Draft order looks good, I wouldn't mess with anything else.

Re: 2010 Draft ideas and information

Wouldn't it make more sense to base the draft order off the 2009 in the game? Because that's a truer reflection of each persons team. I mean my team has 16 of 25 actual players on the Cubs. While I won my divison I'm sure there's other teams where real life record doesn't reflect in game.
