The rotation is much better than last years bunch. Offense still needs depth as well as the bullpen. Might be a tad off from the Wild Card and will improve on the 79 win season from the past 2 years.

why did you trade Ibanez for less and then give up more for the older, more expensive Butler?

    Re: 2020 Seattle Mariners

If i didnt trade Ibanez then I wouldn't have the near as much depth as i do now.

Talltree is mostly a 9 contact guy with plus speed and defense but dismal everywhere else.
Cosme Jimenez is a great player but If i was going to make any deal he had to be in it.
Macbride is a solid SP but he would be pushed out in this rotation.
the 1st is unknown but if its on recent events, its not great
and Orestes lost talent after i got him and he was a throw in.

I know its not the greatest move in the world. But the team ended up better and its not like my payroll is high. And i didn't spend 12 M on a less talented guy like Cooper.

I still think Asai and Mikkelson will be great, and Lafortune could be essentially what Talltree was if he gets one more contact point up. And Butler is a whole 1 year older than Joel.

Rotation is strong. Lineup, not so much. I don't see the average being too high, although i've seen weirder things

Updated for FA Signings of Poulin and Villacorta.

And I still think im a better team without Ibanez with the team I had with him. So when Ibanez signs for near that amount when its his time to resign. Id rather have the depth behind Butler than have Ibanez without Asai and Mikkelson in the lineup.

Ibanez is likely to cost less with his "average" loyalty than Butler with his "minimal" loyalty. Butler is a pending FA. Ibanez is still arby controlled for this full season (for next year's contract)...he'll only be a FA after next season if he reaches the required service time.

Yeah your right on that aspect but Butler (and Bonney to a degree) both had better numbers last season than Ibanez out side of wins and losses. That set aside, this team as a whole would be horrible if i kept him.

Uh. How horrible would that have been, with Butler, Ibanez, Morales and Bonney? We all know you would have overpaid for some crap at 3B or 1B/DH in free agency. Can't really see how that would be worse.

I wouldnt have Asai or Mikkelson in the lineup. And while i got beat out on Jareno (14/2 yr). I still would have gotten Poulin (2/1 year) and Johnson (2.5/3 yr). My rotation would be very strong but my offense would have been dismal. Plus I don't think i make the move for Butler, because this team wouldve been further off from contending and wouldn't have made the deals for Morales and Butler.
