if the rumoured deal does go down flames are near the cap so I don't think they can make a move for Kovolchuk unless they trade Langkow and someone in salary dump type deal

another big trade
Ilya Kovalchuk and Anssi Salmela to the New Jersey Devils.
John Oduya, forwards Niclas Bergfors and Patrice Cormier and NJ's first round pick in 2010 to Atlanta
the teams also swapped 2nd round picks in the 2010 draft

Kovalchuk to the Devils.... ****.

I highly doubt he resigns in the off season.
We never got HiG's reaction to his worst, most hated enemy going from Calgary to Toronto (Phaneuf).
2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)
TBL: Anaheim Angels 2006-present (238-244 regular season, 1 division title)
MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)
I understand contending teams are unwilling to surrender core players for free agent-to-be superstar players or such other players in unhappy contract situations, but for some reason NHL teams, more so than those in other sports, just plain suck at getting equal value. Look at the Thornton, Luongo, Heatley (the second one) trades. The return usually is a package of underachieving scoring forwards and no-name D-men.
It's done: Atlanta trades Kovalchuk to New Jersey - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! SportsTen bucks says those players won't become long-time Thrashers. So the Thrashers get Oduya, a veteran defenseman who didn't fit into what Jacques Lemaire was preaching behind the New Jersey bench. They also get a 22-year old Bergfors, currently in a major scoring slump in this his first full NHL season, but also who has shown plenty of promise at times. Cormier captained Team Canada at the recent World Junior Championships, but he also brought controversy upon himself with three separate elbows in the span of a month, one of which got him suspended for the rest of the season.

The dude turned down $101 million (USD) from Atlanta. I would hate for New Jersey to re-sign him on the cheap, but if that were to happen, at least Thrashers fans and alike can take solace in knowing that he screwed himself to a degree.
i think it's pretty clear he turned that much from atlanta because just he doesn't want to be there anymore, i can't blame him one bit
although he can get more in the KHL

So are you implying that he lied about wanting to be Thrasher for life?
