There are about 70,000 or so people in there right now so I hope so. And apparetnly it can sustain winds of 200 MPH.

A new advisory is due out within 15 minutes here.

I think the winds will go back up soon.

The gusts are already over 200 MPH, so I don't know about the dome...

The winds are down slightly again, but that's not surprising. It looks to me on radar like it's in a "pulse" phase now. It weakened for now, but i see signs of it getting stronger around the center of the storm again. It will weaken for a while and then might strengthen a bit more again.

The next complete advisory is expected at 11 PM, and that one should tell us some things.

the waters where its at are slightly cooler than where it got its high octane fuel earlier. and the difference between 150 mph and the 175 mph winds earlier is virtually nil. just a matter of how far the debris flies at that point.

wind gusts of 213 mph are stronger than many tornadoes. (class F3 tornado). and yes indeed you know its bad when Cantore wont get sent there!

Too many aren't taking this seriously and it's going to cause grave ramifications. This is going to be deadly and catastrophic.

they said this is only the 3rd Catagory 5 storm to hit the US coastline.

They've also stated that the barriers around New Orleans wouldn't withstand a Catagory 2 Hurricane.

4th. (1935 labor day, camille in 69 and andrew in 92) andrew was reclassified as a #5 a few years ago, and if it maintains this strength would be the #2 storm all time in strength (previous was 1935 labor day in florida which was at 892 millibars, which is the strength of a storm. the lower the worse it is)

check that, MSNBC says it is at 904 with 160 mph sustained and 190mph gusts.

BTW, storm surges expected to be well over 20 feet. (could be up to 28 feet) tallest levee? 18 feet.

A complete turn to the due North direction hasn't happened yet. I think(after looking at the latest radars) after some eyewall replacement, the thing is starting to get stronger again. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see the winds increase for the 11 PM advisory. It seems the thing is on a direct path for the city of New Orleans right now. They better start hoping that due Northward turn happens sooner rather than later.
