Article A Sad Day for the World of Comedy

Comedian George Carlin dies in Los Angeles at 71 | U.S. | Reuters

George Carlin, often noted as the second best comedian(Behind Richard Pryor and Ahead of Lenny Bruce) of all time, has passed away today. He had had a history of heart problems, and was checked in to the hospital today with chest pains. He died as a result of heart failure. George, you will be greatly missed. Lets all hope frisbeetarianism is true, and that his soul gets flung up on a roof, never to be retrieved...

I consider myself honored, because last year, I got the chance to see him live. It was only a small show, tuning up for his HBO special this spring, but I sat front row, and got to see one of the greatest comedians ever live. It's a night I will never forget. RIP Georgey!

I most enjoyed his imitation of The Architect of the Matrix on "Scary Movie 3." R.I.P. Georgey. Perhaps the roles are reversed and he watches over Joe Pesci.

Two of the best movies ever IMO. RIP Mr. Carlin. We'll all miss you dearly.

Re: A Sad Day for the World of Comedy

George has had a special place in my heart since I was 9 or so. I grew up always having HBO and got to see his stuff when I was little and loved it. Then as I got older, I got more of his jokes and loved it even more. I remember playing my mom's tapes of George stuff without her knowing because "I was too young". He was THE best comedian of all-time for my money and I too got to see him live. He was tuning up for his second to last HBO special and did his bit on suicide. My friend Jon and I were the only two laughing our asses off while the rest of the crown could not believe their ears. He was so influential and one of the smartest men to show up on your TV screen. He will be missed but his comedy will always be around. I know tonight my friends and I are going to roll up some fatties and watch some specials because I got most of them on DVD. Today is a sad day and an end of an era.
