There were rumors during the season about John Grabow and more recent rumors had them shopping Matt Capps. Andrew McCutchen is a top 10 OF prospect. That's about all I got.

The Pirates aren't going to help the Cubs get Peavy, let alone give up Capps or McCutchen in return for the crap from the Cubs that the Padres don't want.
They did for other teams to get Manny and Bay. Why not now?
The O's are apparently the third team so this could be a way for the Padres to get trade Peavy and Greene and thus killing two birds with one stone.
Like I said, the no-trade clause is killing this deal. I cannot believe the Braves are being so stubborn that they are willing to miss out on getting a top five pitcher. I do not see them getting Burnett or Lowe so why not give the guy a freaking no-trade clause? I see the Braves changing their minds after so of these free agents sign elsewhere.According to general manager Kevin Towers, Jake Peavy's insistence on full no-trade protection following any trade may rule out a deal to the Braves.
"Atlanta has a club policy that's been in place that no one will have full no-trade protection," Towers said. "I don't see them bending the rules for Jake. At this point in time, that's not going to happen unless Jake changes his position on that." Towers added that "there's still a chance" Peavy will be traded to the Cubs, but "it's probably going to be difficult with them" following the re-signing of Ryan Dempster.
My guess is the Angels make a strong play for Peavy at the last second and he's dealt there or not at all until maybe the deadline.....
I'm hearing that if the Angels make a move on CC and get the deal done, that they still would go after Peavy in trade......something like Weaver, Wood & Adenhardt for Peavy
Cubs are still talking to Towers. If the Braves miss out on Burnett, they will come calling again.
Cubs need to do a TON more IMO to really get KT's attention......and now that Greene has been dealt I don't think the alleged immediate payroll issues exist anymore. KT just might keep Peavy until the deadline hoping his value would be higher
Cubs already have Towers attention and losing $5.5 million doesn't relieve them of their financial burdens. It helps but only a little. Cubs are already including Vitters their best prospect, Sean Marshall and Kevin Hart plus whatever from the "third team". They definitely have Towers attention considering Towers is going to revisit talks today.
Towers has gone on to say that if he doesn't feel a deal can be done before Christmas, Peavy will start the season as the Padres ace. I will believe that when I see it. None of the big name free agent pitchers have signed so anything can change. If the Cards snag Burnett, you better believe the Cubs will do everything possible to get Peavy. Interesting to see what happens from here. One source close to GM Jim Hendry characterized the Cubs as "very close" to completing a deal for Jake Peavy.
Cubs and Orioles sources told the Chicago Sun-Times that those two teams have agreed to a swap of Garrett Olson and Felix Pie, contingent on a Peavy deal. Olson would then go to San Diego. The Sun-Times also believes the Phillies are in the deal, but isn't sure the pieces are finalized there.
sean marshall, vitters, olson, j.a happ, and marquis + 4 million ?
Marquis +4m, Olsen (via the O's), Vitters & DeRosa would work for me.....
A guy in my division when I was in the Navy went to college with Sean Marshall.
