    Re: Dodgers@Padres 4/4/08-4/6/08

Sure if he gets his location, he'll be fine, but the ASB is too far out. Lets assume that he doesnt have another save opportunity for the next three games, then thats 4 opportunities in 10 games, multiply that times 8 and he gets 32 opportunities by the ASB. At this clip you would be okay with potentially losing 16 games before the ASB and allowing him to do that? Thats way too many losses IMO.

I understand where you are coming from brother, and I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt to get into the HOF, but if it means lossing games, the team should not have to suffer through that and the manager has to have enough insight into his team to make the smart move no matter how painful it is to Trevor or anyone else.

Add to that one last thing, even if he pulls through and has an average first half, not great, not bad, but average, the article that was posted on MadFriars was very telling as to how he did in the second half of last season and it is uglier than the first thats for sure, so if we make it to the playoffs trying to break in a new Closer in half a season if he doesnt come through could be detrimental to the team going into the playoffs IMO.

Hoffman doesn't do very good in non save situations.

I'm not sure I'd go on the assumption that he'll have 32 save opps by the ASB, which would amount to nearly 70 this season......he wont get run out there for every save opp.....that would mean he'd see 3-4 games in a row, which just wont happen........

And he wont blow 16 games either.....if the total came anywhere near 6, he'd be removed from those duties.....but yes we need to weather the storm by steering directly into it where Hoffman is concerned

There you have it and I agree with you 100%. If he comes near 6 he should be removed, he has two in the first week, we have what 16 more weeks before the ASB, those aren't good odds for him or the team. Now I am pulling for him and I hope the 2 we experienced are all we will see for those 16 weeks, but every year is another year older and another year more tired, and another year that everyone has seen him, so I just dont think it looks good and I think we will see those 6 before the ASB.

Just for the purpose of clarification, when you say "if he comes near 6..." is that blown saves or just blowing the game regardless?

Because yesterday wasn't a blown save.

HWood....for me personally..... blown holds and blown saves are the same thing....failure means you allowed runs to score

For me it's a game the Padres lose because he blew it so that would be a blown hold I guess. we should be 7-1 right now.

Without those 2 blown saves we would have the best record in MLB.

That's a myth that is not supported by fact
