Padres, Gerut agree to minor deal

SAN DIEGO -- Outfielder Jody Gerut agreed to a minor league contract with San Diego.
If he's added to the 40-man roster, Gerut would receive a $700,000, one-year contract and could make an additional $210,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances.
He missed the last two seasons due to a knee injury.

Yah it's not very funny is it......

The Padres are targeting Matt Murton for left field, a notion that gels with Kevin Towers' stated quest to acquire a corner outfielder via trade. Plus, Towers gets along well with Cubs GM Jim Hendry. Not sure how the teams would match up, unless things expand to include Khalil Greene. The Cubs would have to be sure they don't need Murton for other deals or because of other deals.

Nothing has been offered that I've seen......but his name is being discussed it appears
