The Padres also agreed to deals with catcher-first baseman Robert Fick and switch-hitting outfielder Jeff DaVanon.
Fick, 33, is a career .258 hitter with 69 homers and 324 RBI in 846 games over 10 seasons. He spent the past two seasons with the Washington Nationals.
Acquired by the Padres in 2004, Fick hit .265 with three homers and 30 RBI in 230 at-bats with the Padres in 2005. In addition to catching and playing first, Fick started games at both corner outfield spots and made one start at third base.
A San Diego native, DaVanon played at San Diego State and is also the son of Jerry DaVanon, who attended Hoover High and was a member of the original major league Padres of 1969.
DaVanon, who just turned 34, missed most of last season while recuperating from ankle surgery that shortened his 2006 season. He was 4-for-26 in 13 games with Arizona before being acquired by the Oakland A's, with whom he went 15-for-63 in 26 games.
Both Fick and DaVanon were invited to the major league spring training camp.
