Looks like a battle of the horrible between Fassero and Rusch this year in spring training but I guess you can never have too much pitching.Glendon Rusch and the Padres have reportedly agreed to terms on a minor league deal.
They've been close since the winter meetings. Odds are that the Padres will land another starter later this winter, but if they don't, Rusch could compete for a spot in the rotation. He'd make more sense as a swingman initially.
Cameron isn't coming back officially.....
FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Cameron to start looking at other teams
and moments later they agreed to a trade for Edmonds......

What are your thoughts on this. I think its an okay deal. Hes another aging vet, but a good one to have if you gotta have one.
It's all dependent on huge IF's........
IF he's truly healthy
IF his hitting translates to Petco
IF his power translates to Petco
IF he can still go get it in a bigger OF than he's now used to playing in for 81
IF as a 37 year old he can remain healthy
IF his name doesn't come up on some HGH or Roids report and he has to serve some sort of suspension.
IF the Cards pick up 2m as now being reported and not just 1m
IF Freese doesn't turn out to be a mega stud like I actually think he will. I really liked that kid......
IF these if's work out in our favor........then this will be a huge upgrade over Cameron ....and yes huge is the word I choose to use here, but thats a ton of IF's.....
Listening to him on the radio this morning it sounds like he should be healthy. I said he has a new trainer who's kicking his ass, only time will tell on that. He also indicated that St Louis is one of the worst outfields to play in and that Petco is an upgrade and he is looking forward to it. I am not so worried about power, if he can hit the gaps and pull out some doubles and get guys over and in, I'll be happy, I just want to see a nother whiffing windmill in the line-up.
You do ?I just want to see a nother whiffing windmill in the line-up.
I just want people who can get on base and hit runs in.
If they get out too much it's all the same to me regardless of how they're getting out.

I haven't seen Edmonds take a high fastball deep in two years and that is his pitch to drive.
Houston takes another one of our cast offs

Finally the Astros get a pitcher.
I'll take a sac fly with a runner on 3rd and 1 or no outs........that's a productive out, that we've missed many times the past 4 years.......HollywoodLeo

The biggest problem that Edmonds brings is that he doesn't help the Padres cut down on the strikeouts. Padres lead the league is SO's last season which is a big reason why the Pads don't score a lot of runs.
If the Padres want to cut down on strikeouts, they ought to inquire about the availability of Juan Pierre.
