That is what the argument is so I am sticking to it. Blum can also play third and the OF. Blum at SS wouldn't anyone any good either. His numbers are virtually the same as Everett's and Everett's the better fielder. Blum is a bench guy who Fres thinks can replace Biggio.

WHOA! Hang on a second Reefer. I never said Blum could replace Biggio, so let's not go that far. Noone can replace a future HOF'r like Biggio, that's like saying Giles will replace Tony Gwynn.

I said I think Blum could be a productive starter at 2nd base, I never said he could replace Biggio.

I'm sorry but that is exactly what you are suggesting. You think Blum can play everyday second base which is what Biggio played so yes Blum would be replacing Biggio at second. It's not likely the Astros will do that!!

......and Biggio was good because he was productive........Blum wont be able to touch Biggio's productivity.......so it's a terrible move to start Blum.

Hey, I completely agree with you.

I was just pointing out that they can start him without benching Biggio

Why they would want to would be beyond me, but still.

You're right Reefer, that's exactly what I'm suggesting, especially after I just got done saying "you can never replace a future HOF'r like Biggio". But I guess I meant something else right?

Where in the **** are you getting lost? Biggio played second. Biggio retired. You think Blum can play second. Who is replacing who at second? Its not hard. Quit making this out to be something its not. It's not a smart baseball decision to replace a HOFer with a lifetime backup IFer. You have to fill that hole with someone who can actually put up good numbers. It's just not right.

LTR........what he's trying to say is he can't replace Biggio's output ...... If he starts he'll obviously replace him on the field and in the lineup, but he can't replace his production......

No, I actually forgot Biggio retired.

It may not be wise to "replace" him with a career back up, but if that's the best you got then you kinda have no choice in the matter.

That being said, I doubt Blum will be the best option they have when the season starts.

No, that's what i have been trying to say. Fres thinks Blum will be productive. I'm saying its dumb to replace Biggio with a career backup IFer. They are close to signing Matsui and they still have Burke. Both options are better than Blum.

I suggested to him that we start a thread to discuss what everyone views as " productive " ......... it is subjective, so in order for everyone to understand what the other is thinking it might be a good idea........
