Why not save money and have Rowand for three years? And i have repeatedly answered that question you keep asking. I never said it was a lock but if you made the trade, the odds are much better on keeping Rowand than Cameron financially. Cameron will get paid $10+ mil/yr if he produces this season. Linebrink will get more than Jamie Walker money.

I don't understand why a 35 YO Mike Cameron would get more money than a 31 YO Aaron Rowand if both have equal seasons.

It seems to me teams would want the younger guy over the older guy if everything else is even.

Guys who make $7 million and have good seasons get raises especially in next year's market with Hunter and Jones standing to make around $14-16 mil. Rowand will stand to get a raise around where what Cameron makes now. That's just how the market works. The better question you need to ask yourself is why a team would sign a 35 yr old over a 31 yr old.

Oh no Hollywood said it's so therefore it is.....lmfao....as if HWood is the end all be all of Padre fans opinions here....

And yes Hunter might be ready in 2 years, but it could be rushing him a bit, so getting Cameron for 3 years would allow him to mature that much more....it's called not rushing a guy up when you don't need too....and calling me a "sledge loving ass" is pretty damn funny since I can't stand him and want to see him gone and that position upgraded....I'm just not going to support a lateral move and I KNOW that's all Rowand is for us....and at the expense of our best trade commodity....

I've never said I think Sledge is the next coming....so blow that out your Klesko lovin ass

Sorry but you said to listen to the Pads fans and since there is only two consistently, I am listening to 50% of the fans. Sorry but you aren't the end all of Padre opinions. Rowand is a better hitter and defender but yet it's a lateral move. Interesting!

Guys who are 31 and FA who have a good season will get paid more than guys who are 35 who play the same position who have a good year......whether it's length of contract only or dollars per year, or both.....when talking about that age bracket HWood is right.....

If you wanted to use this logic with a 26 year old FA, and 35 year old FA...then I would agree....the 26 year old, unless he's a frigg'n megastar will likely go through one more mid-level contract before hits the motherload.....28-32 year old guys would IMO be the guys that get the huge contracts..... 27 and younger, 33 and older and you have to think differently, that's not to say there aren't exceptions to every rule....

I disagree....Carmeron is a better fielder multiple GGer to prove it....and he will always hit for more power and likely a better OPS.....Rowand will hit for a better BA, but that stat doesn't mean as much anymore when figuring out a players offensive worth....does it ?

Sorry but you just haven't been keeping up with the market because if you did you would know better. Cameron will get a raise if he does better which means $10+ mil. Rowand won't get that much of a raise. Pay attention to the market!!!!!

Or, perhaps I scrolled back up and looked at the wrong post?

I think this debate needs to be revisited since pff seems to have done a complete 180 with his opinion on the subject.

Hindsight is 20/20, we can't go back to the same ole' crap and say Rowand would have or could have been a huge offensive threat.

I'm done with Cruz offensively, he gets up there and just wiffs. I think, once Bradley gets into this lineup, I think this offense will get a much needed boost that Cruz, Sledge and Boca won't give them. Though, I don't know why they're playing Cruz over Boca.

If hindsight is 20-20, what kind of sight do I have since I called it? Rowand is having a great year and playing GG defense and Linebrink is gone and Cameron is soon out the door.
