Why do you think that? If that was the case, the Pads would have done better than a one year deal. Its not lateral when it less costly and getting younger plus Cameron would still be on the team for 07. Its not a Cameron for Rowand trade.

Well Reefer...I think that a 1 year extension is fairly normal considering Camerons age.....the 'x' factor is that he was given the extension before these insane contracts were given.....hindsight is funny like that....my guess is that had the Padres FO known that salaries and contracts were going to go to the moon, they'd have offered him a multi-year deal and locked him up then for what is now being considered a "bargain".....but alas, we don't get to dwell in hindsight do we ??

Its not hindsight really. If they wanted him for three years, they would have given him a contract for three years. There is a lot of talented OFers out there next year which is the main reason he wasn't given a multi year deal, that and like you said his age. There is no reason to think they will sign him for longer.

Nevermind. I see they picked up his option instead of signing a one year deal which changes things in my mind. It still doesn't change that Rowand would be cheaper, younger and definitely better than Sledge/Cruz.

Cheaper? Hell yes especially next year. Younger? By four years. Better? In some ways yes. Keeps getting better iun the field whileas Cameron losing steps. Sledge will hit around .240 as expected.
