Yes I know and I said it wasn't going to happen which means I was right. There are still 10 more days to make me wrong but its not likely. And when I meant I was always right, that's just against Padsfan4ever. No harm, no foul.

Take it with a grain of salt, because he's the same guy who reported the Jake Peavy for Mike Lowell rumors, but Buster Olney just reported on Baseball Tonight that the Padres are going to likely pick up a power bat.

I didn't hear this report, so I don't know what context it was put in (pending deal already on the table, rumor, speculation....) I saw this posted in another forum that it was said on Baseball Tonight just now.

    And, again, consider the source.

Nevin, as bad as he was from time to time, never flirted with the mendoza line.

So I guess a poor man's Bellhorn is a better reference.

Shouldn't the Padres be looking at a pitcher rather than a power bat? I know the Pads need both but with Peavy struggling and Park now out with Young. I do know the chances of it being Beltre are slim and none He has a limited no trade clause and has eight teams he can't be dealt to and SD is one of them. Ensberg might be there but the Astros are still in the WC race.

Peavy has a 2.01 ERA in August, 3rd best in the NL behind 2 Rockies. He's back to his usual antics

I don't think Young's injury is that bad, they haven't made a roster move to accomidate for him, but I'll look it up

Mike Thompson is replacing Park (again) and has been more than effective everytime he's been called up.

conclusion: The need for a pitcher isn't THAT great, (Assuming Young's not out) although one would be nice.

Not that I'd like this one, but David Wells rumors are swirling again.

Actually Peavy has a 1.89 ERA for August so yeah it does look like his old self. Wells has cleared waivers but I don't think it would really help.

I think the 'Stros might be willing to give you Ensberg. I really don't think the Astors want him anymore. I think they were hoping that Huff would replace him at 3B. Hell, Throw Houston an offer. I think reality is starting to set in on Houston.. I think they know they are pretenders.. But the media sure hypes them up a lot.... Again, big names and big contracts don't always pay dividens... Maybe they should pay Clemens 18+ mil. again next year too!!!!

Isn't our current pitching staff ranked something like #2 right now in all of MLB in ERA ? The staff seems to be stepping up and doing well in their fill in roles, and Peavy's move to the left side of the rubber seems to have helped him out....

What we're still having a consitancy problem with is scoring........solve that and you probably solve most of the Padres problems.... Ensberg would be a huge addition to our team......That wouldn't suck, and would be so much better than Beltre IMO
