It had to do with the possibility of the Padres signing 2 marquis free agent pitchers in the same offseason

I'm going to throw another name at you guys.....Carlos Lee. I know he's going to be asking for a big chunk of change, but who wouldn't want to see that guy stepping up to the plate in a Padre uni.....

In place of who ? Ben Johnson is the future here in the OF, Dave Roberts is signed for one more year, Giles isn't going anywhere, and Cameron isn't either......so where would you put him ?

the Padres positional requirements this offseason will be 3rd base and catcher, possibly CF if Cameron's option isn't picked up, but that'll only happen if he gets injured real bad again.

Justin Leone should win the 3rd base job pretty easily if he plays like he has in Spring Training and thus far in AAA

Cameron makes the outfield defense that much better and Giles has protection with Piazza and Cameron batting behind him. I think you extend Cameron's contract.
