long term thats not solid lol
Melky in RF and Gardner in CF and what says that's not solid long term? Melky's hitting .300+ and been the most clutch hitter this year.

Gardner has 9 SB in 37 times on base...Jacoby Ellsbury has 21 in 71 times on base.

You could argue that pound for pound Gardner is a better fielder and base stealer.

I like the idea of 5 OFs...gives the option to start a defensive OF (JD, BG, MC) or a hitting OF (JD, NS, XN). We should be fine. I'd rather not have enough ABs to go around then have not enough hitting for all of our ABs

No you can't. You don't know the situations in which Ellsbury was on base. Second base could have been occupied, he might have stayed at first to keep a hole open for Ortiz in that shift they put on. Just can't say for sure but I'd take Ellsbury over Gardner. Double Gardner's production and he has only 18 SB in 74 times on base. Think about that next time you're high.

Ellsbury is 21/27, or 7/9 for a percentage of 77.7%
Gardner is 9/11 for a percentage of 81.8%

So yeah, pound for pound, Gardner is a better stealer.

With Gardner's percentage in the same number of opportunities he'd have 22 SB...so he would be better.

Also Jacoby leads the majors in CS.
Comparison (jacoby on left, gardner on right)
    AVG: .307 to .277
    OBP: .338 to .339
    SLG: .377 to .416
    R: 26 to 19
    XBH: 11 to 8
    RBI: 13 to 8
    TB: 75 to 42
    GIDP: 4 to 2

Gardner has had 101 ABs. Ellsbury has had 199. In ~200 AB, you could expect Gardner's R, XBH, RBI, TB and GIDP to double...thereby making him the statistically superior player.

Brian Cashman says 'Worst case' possible as Xavier Nady leaves rehab

Xavier Nady's comeback was derailed Thursday night, as the outfielder pulled himself from a game with Triple-A Scranton after experiencing pain in his injured right elbow. Nady made throws in the first and third inning, but he lifted himself before the team took the field in the fifth. General manager Brian Cashman spoke with Scranton manager Dave Miley to get the details, but Cashman hadn't spoken with Nady as the Yankees prepared to leave Atlanta.
"It's the thing you're trying to avoid," Cashman said. "It could be the worst-case scenario, but I haven't talked to X yet. We'll wait and see tomorrow, but obviously it's not a good sign."
Nady, who likely will go for tests on his elbow today, pulled himself from the Yankees' game on April 14 at Tropicana Field in a similar situation, having experienced pain in his elbow after making a throw. It was initially believed he would need Tommy John surgery - which he also had in 2001 - to repair the ligament, but the Yankees decided to try a rehab process instead.
Nady began a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday, and the team had anticipated his return in the next two weeks.
"We know what he's dealing with," Cashman said. "We got close and optimistic, but this definitely doesn't look good."
