    Yankees Lowe Close To Signing?

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees are close to signing Derek Lowe to a four-year deal worth between $68 and $72 million.
However, the Phillies are apparently still in the mix, which could keep the Yankees from announcing the additions of both Lowe and CC Sabathia on the same day. Adding both starters would presumably take the Yankees out of the running for A.J. Burnett despite the fact that they were said to be ready to top the Braves' $60 million offer to him as late as Tuesday night.
If true, the Yankees have made a major overhaul of the rotation in one day. Lowe will be 40 when the deal is over which is of concern. This should put Pettitte out for good as a Yankee and I have to wonder if that two year offer is still there for Sheets.

Ok, I really don't want Lowe on a 4-year contract. That's too long, especially for the money they're giving him. Of those 3 (AJ, Lowe, Sheets), I'd rather have Lowe. But not on a 4-year.

GOOD GOD...I want Lowe on a 2 or 3 year deal...but 4 years and SEVENTY TWO MILLION?...somebody has clearly been drinking far too much if this is the case.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Sabathia for seven years is too long. Bright spot for Lowe is that he says he learned about baseball at his old age from Greg Maddux. Maybe Lowe will take this new found knowledge and apply it like Maddux did at his age getting 15 wins a year.

Lowe did have one of his better seasons last year...but he was also pitching in Dodger Stadium against some weak hitting NL teams. I'll take him for 3 years...I don't know if the extra year and extra cash is worth it. Sheets for 2 might be a better option.

I think right now Sheets for 2 years is a much better option. Safer contract, better pitcher when healthy

Sheets could still be had is the scary thing. None of these reports have the Yankees taking their offer off the table for Sheets. Sabathia, Wang, Sheets, Lowe and Kennedy/Hughes would be sick and more importantly it would put Joba in the pen

Kennedy/Hughes will be in the minors to start the season, and Joba will be starting. The Yankees front office has already made that clear

    a) Pettitte wants to come back, so he might be in the mix as well.
    b) Joba is starting, I don't want to argue this again

I wasn't trying to start up another Joba debate which is why I age the

I think its time to let Pettitte go. He wasn't good last year and he wants $10 million.

If the Yanks can land Sheets and Lowe/Burnett at a reasonable price, I say let Pettitte go. If they don't get 2 of those pitchers, gotta bring him back.

I figured that, but somebody was bound to take it seriously and start the debate up.

As for Pettitte...it depends who else they can get. But I don't think he's a top priority.

Rather have Oliver Perez than Pettitte as far as lefties go. I do think the Yankees need a good lefty in that rotation. Problem is Pettitte isn't good anymore.

17 mil per year for Lowe is a tad excessive.....he was only asking for 4/60 last i heard.
