    Question Dropped Third Strike

So we've got a question going around the office here with the baseball team I'm working for. Can't find it on the internet anywhere reliable so wanted to ask you guys and see what everyone thought.

A batter reaches base on a dropped third strike.
    1) Does it positively or negatively affect his OBP?
    2) If that's the only time he reaches base in the game, can you say he "reached base safely" that game or no?

    Re: Dropped Third Strike

its negatively on the obp, because the at bat counts as a strikeout. its the same as reaching base on an error.

by that rationale, i would assume the answer is no on the reached base safely thing, but i suppose i wouldnt know definitively.

See that's what I'm thinking. I thought originally that it would be "reached base safely" because you did just that. You got on first base safely, without being recorded as an out. But if it affects OBP negatively, then that sort of contradicts the reached base safely statement. So I'm not sure.
