    Baseball Slant CC to Milwaukee

ESPN - Report: Indians agree to deal Sabathia to Brewers for minor leaguers - MLB

It looks like the next time C.C. Sabathia takes the mound he'll be donning a Milwaukee Brewers jersey.

The deal is contingent on paperwork being finished and the exchange of medical records. Cleveland would get Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who is hitting .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Huntsville, and two other minor leaguers in return, according to the Journal Sentinel. The two other players do not include top prospects Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel.
The Brewers wanted Sabathia, who rejected a $72 million, four-year extension from the Indians during spring training, on their pitching staff in time to get him two starts before the All-Star break, according to multiple media reports. Sabathia, who is 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA this season, could debut in Milwaukee against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the Journal Sentinel on Saturday that a proposal was on table and he awaiting word from Indians GM Mark Shapiro.
"Mark said he'd be in touch with me," said Melvin.

    Re: CC to Milwaukee

Carmona had a decent bullpen session, and with the signing of Jeff Weaver to a minor league deal...it was bound to happen. But the question must be asked, is this trade a sign that Cleveland is somewhat bowing out this season? They have struggled mightily with injuries to Hafner, Martinez, Carmona...it just doesn't seem like they will have the ability to turn it around enough to stay competitive in the division this year.

Today has to be the worst day for Cleveland fans. First their team looked they was going to win but they crumbled near to the end and lost and then traded their star pitcher away.

If it wasn't for the injuries to Martinez, Hafner, Carmona, what would the Indians be doing this day today and where will they be right now?

Cleveland is definitely folding it up this year...we'll see if the Ewing Theory strikes.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

With the onset of the CC trade I really believe the tribe is throwing in the towel. They are not going to be able to compete with all there injuries and only Cliff Lee being productive. Jeff Weaver is just God awful.

Cleveland is sitting dead last in the division so there is no towel to throw in, its been done for them. Indians had injuries to key players which hurt them. Their bullpen sucked balls too. This is a huge trade for the Brewers putting pressure on the Cards and Cubs. Sheets is a goner after this year and I'm wanting to see how he reacts to this move knowing that. The Brewers have not been in the postseason since 1982! It looks like a good deal for both sides.

So who's the Brewers' ace? Sheets or Sabathia? As much as you like to stick with the in-house guy, CC did just win a Cy Young...

Is that just because his team is winning games, or are his individual stats better?

    Re: CC to Milwaukee

Don't get fooled with CC's ERA this year. His ERA is not very bad despite his record. The Indians is the worst offensive team this year, they did not produce enough run supports for CC to fall back on. By the end of season, his record may will have more wins than loses unless Milwaukee does not do anything to address their bullpen needs before the trade deadline.

Sabathia is not in the top 40 in ERA for all of MLB, Sheets is 7th.
