    White Sox Padres-White s0x trade

White Sox acquired infielder Geoff Blum from the Padres for LHP Ryan Meaux.
Insurance with Joe Crede on the way out? We hope not. Blum will be an upgrade over Willie Harris in a utility role, but since manager Ozzie Guillen likes Pablo Ozuna, he shouldn't get enough at-bats to have any fantasy value. Blum was hitting .242/.323/.377 in 223 AB for the Padres

Padres acquired LHP Ryan Meaux from the White Sox for infielder Geoff Blum.
Meaux, a 26-year-old reliever, has been available on waivers before. He had a 2.96 ERA and a 64/18 K/BB ratio in 67 IP for Double-A Birmingham. He'll probably spend some time in the majors before all is said and done, but he shouldn't be much more than a specialist.

    Yeah, this trade means nothing.

The Pads dump a little salary in Blum. Good move for SD, even if Meaux turns out as nothing.

Do you think of nothing but the little salaries teams dump?

Blum was making only $575K this season. The Pads just traded one of their key players on a bench that this forum's Padre fans have been raving about for some time.

Sorry that Geoff freaking Blum sucks because he doesn't score you fantasy points. I'm sure Ryan Meaux is so going to help the Padres' playoff run.

Did I say anything about fantasy points? WTF are you talking about?

With Loretta back, and Damian Jackson playing well(Not to mention Eric Young) to work in, there was no use for a 3rd utility infielder.

Blum has not played as well as Jackson, and he's surely not as good as Young, due to lack of speed.

They didn't need him, so they dumped him.

I guess the Padres would rather have their Dave Rosses and Miguel Olivos on their rosters over Blum. They already have two speedsters, Roberts and Jackson, so I'll take Blum's bat over Young. Blum's also a switch hitter and provided a 2nd lefty off the bench with Sweeney.

The salary is almost irrelevant. Blum has already gotten half of his pay this year. With Randa now at third, and Mark Loretta at second, Blum became unecessary.

I don't really understand dumping him, but at the same time we won't really miss him for reasons already stated in this thread.

I'd take Jackson, Fick, and Sweeney over Blum and I'd take Young's speed and defense over Blum, so if we're going to dump a bench player than it may as well be Blum.

In regards to the retort on Olivo and Ross, there's really not much choice in the matter, somebody has to catch. (Olivo will probably be in AAA, unless they want Fick playing elsewhere)
