I wonder what Rick Reily is going to say about this.

Anyways congrats to Felix, well deserved it and the baseball writers are figuring out that W's are not the main stat to look at, other stats do apply when you evaluate a pitcher.

He and Wilbon didn't like it when Lincecum won his first time, just because he didn't have the most wins. /eyeroll

Congratulations to King Felix. He really deserved the award. He had the stats stacked on his side and the writers saw that. It shows it is not all about the wins.

Wait you mean there are actually a legitimate number Charger fans? Could have fooled this Raider fan.

WAR is becoming trendy. It's the new OPS.

I'm dubious of any metric that decides David DeJesus is more valuable than Adam Dunn.

Wins Above Replacement. It's a sabremetric stat that people use to determine value of players to their team.

Well I didn't mean to focus on WAR, it was just the only stat I could remember off the top of my head.

WAR is just another theory that tries to help people understand a player's value. Anyway, congrats to Felix and congrats to the voter for getting this right! Felix was hands down the best pitcher in the AL.

If it factors in defense, then most will end up being more valuable. But I don't know what goes into WAR. Aside from genocide, bombs, etc.

Memories Of Kevin Malone - A Los Angeles Dodgers Blog: From ESPN: Best Comments On Felix Hernandez Winning The AL Cy Young

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5820623
    And how did Seattle do?
    That's right last place.
CC was the best pitcher and pitch under divisional race pressure all year but guess what, He is a Yankee and they will never give it to him.
Keep the King boys, I will take CC anyday, pressure, pressure, pressure.
I find it ridiculous that Felix pitches basically all year with absolutely no pressure on him and wins the Cy Young so convincingly.
"He is a Yankee and they will never give it to him."
    Priceless.

I mean, I can see Yankees fans' point about pressure. I'll definitely throw a fit if James McDonald as a Pirate is ever in the running for the Cy Young.

HOWEVER, true greatness can't be denied. Remember, this was the same argument against a Montreal Expos pitcher by the name of Pedro Martinez winning the 1997 Cy Young.

Pressure is a bullshit argument. Its up there with how many rings a person has and some other ones I'm too stoned to care about.
