He's drunk enough to realize they need all the pitching they can get. Something he didn't do in the offseason.

John Patterson (forearm) doesn't think he will be healthy enough to pitch on Sunday.
Patterson had his start on Thursday pushed back to Sunday, but he doesn't look like he will be healthy enough to go. The Nationals haven't said who will start Sunday's game if Patterson can't.

In his major league debut, Mike O'Connor yielded three unearned runs in five innings against the Cardinals on Thursday night.
Ryan Zimmerman's throwing error in the first preceded a Jim Edmonds' three-run homer. O'Connor shut the Cardinals down after that, but he still might not get another start, as the Nationals will need to add Zach Day to the active roster on Friday or Saturday. At least the southpaw put himself in position for an additional callup down the line.

Mike O'Connor will get a second start for the Nationals in place of the injured John Patterson, manager Frank Robinson said.
O'Connor, who allowed three unearned runs in five innings on Thursday, will face the Mets on Tuesday. He's not an option in NL-only leagues

Nationals placed RHP John Patterson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 23, with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm.
Instead of sending down Mike O'Connor, Patterson is placed on the Dl toopen up a spot for Zach Day. It seems like the Nationals have been underestimating Patterson's problem right from the start, so there's very good reason for concern now. O'Connor will likely get another start in his place on Wednesday. The Nationals also need a starter for Sunday, but they may go with a bullpen day.

Ryan Zimmerman finished 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Friday's win over the Cardinals.
Zimmerman still isn't hitting particularly well, but he's driven in 16 runs in 23 games. Because Nick Johnson has done such a tremendous job of getting on base and Jose Guillen never drives in anyone himself, Zimmerman has hit with RISP an awful lot this month

Zach Day took the loss after yielding four runs in five innings against the Cardinals today.
Day, who was claimed by the Nationals from the Rockies last week, needed just 65 pitches to complete five innings but was still pulled to start the sixth with his team down 4-2. He doesn't figure to be particularly useful in NL-only leagues

Ryan Church hasn't left the Nationals' hotel since coming down with the flu on Friday.
He has missed back-to-back games and is expected to be held out of Monday's game also.

Nationals need him healthy and really need him to hit leadoff as Guillen is doing nothing. Soriano needs to be in a position to drive in runs.

Ryan Church could be available off the bench beginning on Tuesday.
Church hasn't played since leaving Friday's game with the flu. Marlon Byrd is filling in.

    More fun news.

With the slump Guillen's going through, they're switching up the batting order for a while.

    3 - Soriano
    4 - Johnson
    5 - Guillen

Anything to get Soriano out of leadoff.

Tony Armas Jr. was charged with five runs in just 2 2/3 innings against the Marlins tonight.
Armas left after a two-run homer by Wes Helms in the third inning. He didn't walk a batter, but Armas did hit two and give up a pair of homers. Entering tonight he hadn't yielded more than three runs in any start. Armas will see the Reds at the Great American Ball Park next week, so see if you have any other options in NL-only leagues.

Due to lingering soreness in his forearm, John Patterson won't make a rehab start on Monday as scheduled. He's expected to pitch in the minors next Saturday.
The Nationals keep underestimating Patterson's injury. On Wednesday, they had him pitch in an intraquad game just five days after placing him on the DL. The hope was that he'd be activated to start against the Braves next Saturday. Now, the earliest he'll return is May 18.
