I would say even go to TB instead of 2B and 3B

You already factor in OPS... so no need for that or really BB.. you get enough AB's and an OPS over X, you are already in compensation anyway

so less categories... we don't want a TON of boost.. just a little recognition for performance.. this is just in those other calculations for when you don't really get the "auto bid"

so like TB, HR, RBI, R, and SB? SB is self explanatory... TB, because you can have a great singles hitter getting a lot of hits and producing, without possibly having really high OPS... HR, RBI, and Runs are pretty self explanatory too...

As for pitching... ERA, WHIP, W, K, SV?

I would keep it the way you have it Nick, but if I were you, I would reserve the right to add anyone to the list or bump a guy up from B to A if you feel he deserves it (aka in the Crawford case). If it were in my league, I'd definitely push him up to class A because he had an incredible year

Leave it as it is but maybe have the TC arbitrarily check on borderline A/B players and have them hash it out.

I thought of that too... but think there should be some objective structure and not just subjective

I'm not going to change anything then... I like your ideas though Dave, maybe sometime in the future.

The only way I am modifying anything is if there is a standard set that can be a deciding factor to help the cause. I am not going to allow exceptions for one year here, one year there, sorry. That makes for far too many potential exceptions and people will ALWAYS be asking if their player can get a bump in compensation. And I really don't like the idea of a trade council deciding it either. Who is to say the players in question won't belong to people on this council?

If you guys are fine with how it is, then it can stay.

Re: One comp idea perhaps for next yr and beyond?

In the future, I think we could do DD's idea, with Average, RBI's, OPS, SB for hitters and ERA, WHIP K's SV's as the categories, make a top 3 you get a 2 point boost and a top 10 gets you a 1 point boost in comp calculations...

Re: One comp idea perhaps for next yr and beyond?

The current comp formula should and (likely) would have covered Crawford one or two years ago when his speed was better truthfully. That's the weird thing in all of this.... when he had his 10 speed and 9 basestealing or whatever, I'm sure he would have qualified under the leadoff hitters point system. But since his speed has diminished, even if his speed stats have remained the same, he didn't qualify.

What we have works 90% of the time... if there comes a time it isn't working well enough, or the league standard has dramatically changed, we can definitely look into some other ideas.
