Way too much for Herreros. I understand he's got potential, but still, 14/7 for someone unproven is entirely too much. If he was filled out and had an awesome season last year, then that'd be worth it.

Also, Hafner AND V-Mart. The Rays are the dump of former Cleveland superstars.

Orenduff another failed starter whos going to get a chance in the pen for KC. Shouldnt be hard for me to cover extra inning games since every pitcher except Brazoban is going to have at least 5 end.

Damn you Hafner, I offered more money.

And it will be interesting to see what Herreros does from here on out.

It will be! I offered Herreros what I thought was a HUGE contract, only to be outbid big time. I'm happy with signing Garza. He may not be anywhere near the pitcher that Santana was, but he will cost a lot less than the $25 Mil plus that Santana was demanding from me last year. We flipped Santana for better spects that what the draft picks he would have netted will likely be worth, and found a decent replacement. Without Santana and Pujols, the Cardinals are but a shadow of what they once were, but they won't go down without a fight.

I'm kicking myself for not making an offer to Headley. I thought he would sign for much more than what he actually signed for.

General, I totally agree it was a lot, probably too much. But I have to take the chance. If he pans out, he could be HUGE to the team. If not.....that's a chance I feel like I want to take. It's risky, but I want to take a few risks with this team right now.

Umm.......not drunk at all. We'll see how it pans out.

Here's something that influenced my decision: I saw the leading team bidding for him on my emails was the Yankees. I knew I had to outbid Perf. So I went for it

Well even if Herreos fills out, he still might not live up to the contract. A lot will depend on how high that 10 power is. Because he's not even a pull hitter. His 10 power talent is great, and 9 contact talent is also very nice. Everything else is around average for him. Still it's nice you don't have to worry about 3B for the next 7+ years, barring a talent hit.

Herreros won't kill you if you're smart with the rest of your money. Unless you're the Yanks, you usually can't afford to miss with that type of contract. I mean you're payroll is $36k, and you only have $33k available in free agent money.

Now you'll be fine once all your prospects are up and ready to contribute. You'll run in big problems once those guys start hitting arby. You'll be in a situation where you might not be able to extend all of them, or fill any holes you have via free agency. Hopefully he doesn't become Dennis Meeks where he has all that talent, and won't develop.

Your main goal though should be trying to win as much as possible now, because while 1st overall might be nice. If you're picking a little bit higher you might miss out a couple nice guys, but you can start trying to get fan interest up which will turn into more available money when your team needs it.

    Re: FA ROUND 2 Signings

this is why I have sold off every large contract I can. i want to make as much money as I can for the next few years, and keep as much of it as I can, before those arby times come. they won't come up to the majors until I'm ready to compete, so I dont' have anyone hitting arby before I want them to

after getting rid of aramis, there's no way i can win now

Same Dennis Meeks that won a MVP and a ring. Yeah, you absolutely would not want that.
