    Reed Johnson Released

Blue Jays released outfielder Reed Johnson.
Johnson hit .289 this spring, but the Blue Jays had little interest in keeping him around after picking up Shannon Stewart. Since no trade could be worked out, they'll be on the hook for about $550,000 of the $3.275 million he was owed. He should quickly find a role as a reserve elsewhere. The Mets and Padres are possibilities.
Johnson is a career .281/.342/.410 hitter and is 31 years old. Someone will pick him up but i don't expect it any time soon.

Some team needs this guy and he will get a job soon, IMO. He is a quality player that just doesn't fit in the Jays plans.

I'm guessing that DePodesta is working the phones to bring Reed Johnson from his buddy Ricciardi to SD.

Someone will pick him up. I could totally see the Cubs picking him up to play CF for defense and bat him 8th.

Johnson deserved better so I hope he finds a new team quick and starts, honestly I would keep him over Stewart anytime, Johnson is great in the OF, can play all 3 positions there and has a great arm, he's a good gritty hitter, works the counts very well and hugs the plate a lot and will give up his body for bean, good speed too.

Hell, the Brewers should pick him up and make him the leadoff hitter.

    Re: Reed Johnson Released

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal says the Cubs, Red Sox, Rays and Rangers are among the teams showing interest in Reed Johnson.
The Cubs have been the top suitor so far. Johnson could be signed as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday. If the Cubs get them, they'd most likely halt their pursuit of Marlon Byrd. The Red Sox would have to resign themselves to dumping Coco Crisp for 10 cents on the dollar if they landed Johnson.
So maybe he'll get picked up sooner than I thought.

    I wouldn't go that far.

It look likes a platoon situation between that fleet footed Outfielder Matt Stairs and Shannon Stewart who has to be pushing 40. It is only a matter of time and a bit of seasoning in AAA before Adam Lind is back.

Reed Johnson will earn $1.3 million under the terms of his one-year deal with the Cubs.
He's also receiving about $550,000 from the Jays after being released.
Boy was I dead ass wrong!! He made a killing in no time.

hate to say it, but I told you guys. Man, am I good!

Just kidding!! But, I just had a hunch the Cubs were going to at least inquire about him.

Solid pickup, Johnson's certainly worth that kind of deal.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Wait a second, what the heck? Didn't J.P. Ricciardi just give Reed Johnson a contract for $3 million? And now he cuts him. Yeah, ok. And not only that, but he cuts him 5 DAYS before the season starts. Way to go, douchebag Ricciardi. Not really giving him much of a shot to win a job elsewhere huh.
