What happened the last week or so

Well hello everyone

It's funny what comes out about someone once they disappear for a while.

Anywho, over the last week the hard drive of my computer absolutely fried. I lost everything. I had all the essentially important stuff on a backup hard drive, but that unfortunately did not include any of my OOTP stuff. Don't worry. CJ came to the rescue and has a copy of the file that he used for editing the draft class, but unfortunately it is from the beginning or near the beginning of the season.

I apologize to everyone for this happening. But there honestly was nothing I could do about it. I literally spent 4 hours in the IT place here at Syracuse attempting to figure out a way to get specifically the league file off the dead hard drive but not even a room full of really smart Indians could do it.

I would like to respond to some comments made about me, my co commish, and my league. I'm not going to sling mud back at the individual because I don't do that. All I'm going to say is you should watch what you say. What if I had something happen to me like Crazy did a while back? What if I had gotten in a serious accident and you were bashing me because I was missing for a few days? Real life > sim league. You know that yourself. You've gone missing for a few days yourself and have always done an excellent job picking your league back up.
As far as everything going wrong in this league, I will admit as a relatively new commish I haven't done everything the way I should have, but I've learned from it and I've wanted to get better every time. Never have I had anything but the best intentions for the league in mind. I can honestly say that and know I'm telling the truth to myself whether you believe it or not. Yea there are a lot of open spots. I don't know why that is. But just because your league is.....well....better than mine, which it is, doesn't give you the right to bash the league, especially when you'renot even in it. I put out my hard earned money just like you do to pay for the domain name. I put my time into this league just like you do. I don't have very much of either (in face at the moment I literally have zero of the former). As a commissioner of another league I would expect you to have the same respect for someone who puts a lot of time, effort, and money into another league, whether he does everything perfect or not.
But clearly you don't have that kind of respect. And for that I'm sorry. I apologize if you think my league sucks. You're entitled to your opinion. But try to have some respect please, and instead of just sitting there wasting your time bashing it, maybe you could instead put that 5 minutes or whatever you spent coming up with that lovely paragraph towards finding out where I went or helping me get some more people or writing a paragraph of a PM to me explaining how I might be able to do things better. Those would do a hell of a lot more than just sitting there grumbling about how I suck.

That is all. I will look at the file that CJ sent me tonight after class or tomorrow and let you know where we all stand. We may have to start the season over, although I know not everyone will be bummed by that

Not to be a prick, or make this a pity & pissing contest GF, but you know where I was since last Thursday basically? Burying my 80-year-old grandma in Mansfield, IL. Basically my 3rd parent since I was born, and it was the first funeral I've ever been to. Believe me, I realize life is much more important than sim leagues.

Maybe some people deal with crisis better than others, I don't know. I didn't even know you were "missing", guess it was the last thing on my mind honestly. I don't know you on a personal level, or anyone else here for that matter. So not to sound like an insensitive asshole, but this site is simply a sports forum/website to me. I can talk sports and play OOTP with people here, and read and share my own opions. If Crazy happened to die in a car crash or something and that's why he's gone, then that would really suck obviously. But it's not my job to worry about the well-being of forum members that I don't know on a personal level. That's pretty much like worrying about a stranger on the street who walks by your house during the day. Atleast it is to me.

So I'm sorry I didn't consider the possibility that you could have been eaten by bears or murdered while you were gone for 2 days.

TPSL is better than this league. That's obvious. No one is saying otherwise. GF wants to run a league, he wants to do this, so if you're not inconvenienced by his league existing, there's no real need to complain. Again, not trying to start anything, I just don't see the purpose behind bashing it, when it doesn't harm your league by existing, and it doesn't help your league if he were to suddenly quit.

No need to alienate or infuriate anyone, we've already lost too many good people here. I hope I haven't gone too far in defending GF, or in making my own points, but it's the truth.

For the record my gripe isn't with GF or CJ, and it isn't personal, and I can relate a little bit because TPSLv1 was a complete and utter mess until I let hammer run it, and right when the league was gaining some stability under him, he crashed it anyway. I don't think either of you or CJ were around when that league was active, but I ran it for awhile and didn't handle anything right, it was a S3SL clone basically, and until hammer took it over because I was too busy, it really never moved or simmed after the first year of its existence.

So if you want my complete and honest suggestion on how to make things better for the longrun and not just now... instead of hearing my banter about how no one ever sims...
I'm in your your shoes, I would just restart the league and put more work into fixing the little things and making the file more detailed... that's what I did when this exact same thing happened to me anyway, so that's about the advice I could give you guys. Everything else I really have told you about over PM or AIM at this point... I tried to explain the zipped upload technique to upload quicker, and while I failed at explaining it you figured it out on your owen eventually. I told you about editting the header... etc. There's a few tips and things I've picked up along the way, and I'm pretty sure I shared most of them with you, reluctantly or not.

It's not like I don't have a heart or haven't been through my fair of shit while running my league, and he's the one who brought the pity game into it first and tried to guilt me into thinking he could have been hanging out with Crazy and an ewok somewhere in space.

I'm fine with GF running his league, I'm not inconvienenced, but my whole point was that there's two active leagues on a website that doesn't even have 50 active members in any given week posting lately, and both of those leagues need additional members right now as well. But whatever, I'm not going to lie or sugar coat anything. I never thought it would be worth adding another league after TSSL ended. TSSL died because of member inactivity and people complaining 24/7. Why would another league be any different?....

Done responding to this crap though, I don't feel like being painted out to look like a villian because GF downloaded bad porn to his laptop and it crashed. That's a joke, ha ha ha ha ha.

Could I chime in here and propose a compromise? GF, would you consider re-starting TBSL as an OOTP 10 league? If you buy the game, I will donate the webspace. (Allow me to double check my hosting history and insure that I can do it. Last time I checked I was below 50% of what I am entitled to and that is with 4 leagues that carry more MBs than a 6.5 league)

This would accomplish many things. 1. You still Commish TBSL. 2. We dispose of the less than desirable rosterset that we started out with in the current 6.5 TBSL 3. We add a little variety to S3F leagues and hopefully draw more posters.

(The other idea is you commish a Madden 10 Online Franchise League!)

Because another league that's active, or another league that isn't so similar to the past few leagues (including the league it replaced, TSSL...) would probably generate more attention and actually be fun to participate in. This is the same rehashed idea that every league we've had on this site used at some point (can't say for sure what Crazy ever did with his leagues, because the one I was in I didn't bother using or taking advantage of any of the gimmick features)... try something different, give it an identity. If people weren't sending changes in TSSL near the end, I just don't see how putting a near identicle league in its place was going to be of any help, and it really hasn't been. From the outside looking in, it seems like this league has never gotten into a flow and now it's culminating in another standstill because the roster file crashed.

Take advantage of a seemingly bad situation and do something differently while there's a lull period... 6.5 leagues are great and all, but the format starts to run its course after awhile unless there's something different about the league... and it's hard as hell to find members for them. Damn near impossible really.

Actually, if OM was talking about an Xbox360 Online Madden Franchise, and not PS3, I'd say just do that instead or atleast in addition to whatever becomes of TBSL. That would be fun as hell and I'd join that for sure... not to sway off topic, but someone should run a Madden chise atleast.

nick, i dont know you, but after reading what you say and how you talk i would never join a league that you would run, so for the comment in the other thread about recruiting me to your league, never going to happen. So i would like to ask you NOT to include my name in any other type of bashing of a league, because it doesn't help.
