Coming to the SBSL in 2012... you will be able to create and control your own player. I'm working on the rules, and there will be a lot of them, but you will be able to create 1 player and control him. In the future the limit may be raised to 2 players, but for now we are going to only allow 1 player. I'll go into more details later, but I'll give a summary now. You will be allowed to create 1 player and name him yourself, it could be your own name. You won't be able to pick your own ratings or age, ootp will decide that. However, you will be able to improve your ratings though...get this....activity. Yep, this isn't something that you can start, and then disapear for awhile and pick right back up on if you want to be succesful. You will be responsible for your player. Once you create your player, he will be entered into the First year player draft, and you will not be allowed to draft yourself. You will be able to earn points to improve every aspect of your player from fielding, hitting, pitching, ect. We have tried participation programs in the past, and they didn't work because the same active posters always participated, strengthening their own teams while others didn't participate. This will be different, because it isn't team based. If you want your player to do well, you must participate. Once he makes the majors, you will be able to discuss contract extensions....entertain free agent offers...ect. If you think Scott Boras is an idiot... or even if you think hes a genius.. well this is your chance to prove that you can do the same thing. It won't be easy though, as a player you will go through the minors riding on a team bus eating at McDonalds in hopes of one day making it to the show. Once you get there, you struggle to stay there, and possibly make the All Star Game so that you recieve your bonus, and possibly becoming one of the biggest stars in the SBSL. It's a long road, and only the best will survive? Do you got what it takes?

Can we request trades? Also, this might get extremely weird if someone gets really good, potentially a team could be going up against the player that GM controls in the postseason, and he could help his team by hurting his player temporarily.

GF is right, you won't be able to hurt your player that way. The way you hurt him would be by not participating, which would stunt his growth. If you make him good enough to where he is a star, there really isn't anything that you can do at that point to hurt him. Also, even if there was a way to hurt him, there will be strict rules against tampering.

I'll think about the requesting a trade idea. I don't see anything really wrong with it, because as in real life, the GM doesn't have to listen to the player. They can just tell you to suck it up. Although, when your a free agent, you could negotiate a limited or non limited no trade clause in your contract.

Nope, that was only for LJ since he used his own name for his sandwich pick. This won't happen until the offseason, so you don't need your name until then.

Alright Crazy, I've changed my mind. I know it's juvenile, but I've kinda always been waiting to see it happen in an OOTP league. The new name for my sandwich pick(unless you've already edited him) is Ben Dover. If you've already changed the name, then disregard this post.

I too love this idea. I think that your created player should not be allowed to play for your team, otherwise it would be too easy the first go round of FA for a GM to control his player and say no to all other teams offers and then sign with the team he is GM'ing at a semi discounted rate.
