How about they do, but if the wild card doesn't meet a certain win requirement than the third place team can steal the other divisions wild card?
I'm pretty sure that's impossible. OOTP isn't tailor-made to do that kind of shit.

problem with the game: it only allows 10 teams per division and only 2 leagues max. That means we'd only be able to have 20 teams

    I was talking about:

2 leagues: AL and NL (like now)
4 divisions: 2 in each league with 6-7 teams in each
8 playoff spots: 4 division winners, 4 Wild Cards

The structure works because I've done it and seen it before as well. I'm just not sure if it would let me have 2 Wild Cards in each league.

I wouldn't like the old 2 playoff team format.

It'd suck to win 100+ games and not make the playoffs like the 1993 Giants did.

There'd be 4 divisions. (2 in the NL 2 in the AL)

    That works too.

And if we do send it back to a more old school approach, do we bring back some of the old teams. Maybe we pick a year from the past, and have the teams representative of that time.

We have 28 at the moment right? Than say we model the league of the 1993 Season

This is all in my head though, and open for interputation.

Re: 2017 Random Rumblings (new and improved...or is it?)

OK, looking at an old league I was running for several seasons when I first got the game I figured out how it would be because I used the setup I am proposing.

No matter how many divisions you have, there are always 3 playoff choices (choice 1, choice 2, and no playoffs). The first two choices depend on the number of divisions in each league. When there are 2 divisions in each league you can choose:

    1) only the division winners make the playoffs
    2) the top 2 teams in each division make the playoffs
    3) no playoffs

I would choose number 2 if I were to do this. So there are 2 Wild Cards in a sense, but not really. The top 2 teams in each division make it. So if the 3rd team in one division had a better record than the 2nd team in the other, they would be left out. Oh well. The same type of thing can happen now if one division is really weak and the top 2 Wild Card teams have better records. Only one of those teams can make it.

This format would work with the league as it stands now. There would be 4 divisions with 7 teams each just like it was before realignment. Depending on activity/inactivity it could go down to 4 divisions with 6 teams each. Each league has to have an even number of teams for the schedule to work correctly so we'd have to have 28 teams like now or 24 teams. It couldn't be anything in between. It could only be 26 teams if we left the format as is, but one league would have to have 14 and the other would have 12.

Nothing is set in stone. I'm just throwing that out there. I'm not going to lie though. I like the idea of 2 divisions in each league with the top 2 teams in each division qualifying for the playoffs. And I do like the idea of less teams if the situation presents itself.

There would be no team name changes / relocation or anything like that. That stuff gets too crazy sometimes with the stuff people choose. Teams would just be contracted like the Dodgers and Brewers were this season if that happened, but as I said it may remain at 28 teams. Contraction will depend on the activity/inactivity of GMs though.

    Batting AVG: .280 (9th)
    Homeruns: 22 (3rd)
    Walks: 48 (21st)
    Stolen Bases: 22 (6th)
    Runs Scored: 81 (13th)

    Pitching ERA: 4.34 (11th)
    Opponents AVG: .258 (9th)
    HRs Allowed: 10 (5th)
    Walks Allowed: 49 (9th)
    Runs Allowed: 70 (8th)

Couldn't ask for a better start. 11-4 sim. Saltamacchia is killing the ball right out the gate (6 HR, 17 RBIs). Emliano Fruto is on pace to have 54 saves (in 55 chances) and a 1.04 ERA.

Also I'm just going to pray to get players after the 3rd round. Ibanez, Torre and now...

Harry Smith seems to have improved his pure stuff!
Harry Smith's pitches have more bite now, the movement has improved!
Harry Smith is hitting his spots better, his command improved!

Hes now a 7-9-8 and is in perfect shape to replace Dobies next season or before.

New York (N)'s pitcher Nestor Rodriguez is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. He struck out 32 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 5-0 while pitching 32 innings. His ERA in April was 1.48.
