We knew it would be bad, but who thought it would get this bad. After starting the season off 3-0, the Sled Dogs have won a measley 19 more games. Through mid August, their record is 22 wins and an astonishing 92 losses. Included in this streak of bad luck was 6 straight sims of 1-9. After this last sim was done, that streak was broken, as the mighty Sled Dogs managed to go 2-8. Let's take a look at what is wrong.

6-50 Road Record
28th in team batting average at .234
30th in team ERA at 5.77
they have been outscored 390-700
Outhomered 56-138

Rest assured, the Sled Dogs did not stand pat at the trade deadline. Yes, I realize that no trades were made but Chipper Jones (aka the 7.5 million dollar bench warmer) was released.

More bad news, the teams most productive hitter for the first 2 months of the season (Marland Williams) is now out for 5 weeks with a broken ulna. As if there weren't enough holes in the lineup already.

The stoppers (Robert Scherer and Craig Hansen) have combined to give up 108 hits in only 80+ Innings.

The Good News:
Alaska has 3 players on pace to break the Single Season RBI record for Alaska (65)

Jimmy "The Kid" Couger has come on board to become the youngest Major Leaguer at the age of 16. He has since turned 17, but has a .304 avg all while driving in more runs than anyone in his 30 game stint in the majors.....Even though that RBI total is 14 it is from the 8 hole, which isn't a terrible number.

The prospective staff ace (Jimmy Key) has improved his stats nearly across the board. This includes dropping his ERA by 1.7 points

The team has already turned a profit of 29 million dollars, on top of their profit of 19 million from last year. This all equates to 57 million dollar budget for FA's........now, to convince some of those FA's to move to the great Northwest.

The team now sports a total payroll of under 16 million dollars, 2 of the teams top remaining paid players look to be cut at the end of the year while another has an arbitration hearing that will likely see him take a 1 million dollar pay cut.

The turnaround of this team is clearly a marathon and not a sprint.....unfortunately we may have just crossed the 3 mile mark.
