White Sox Chicago Sim review (5/15-5/25)

    3-5 Sim

    1-1 vs. CPR
    2-1 vs. BOS
    0-3 @ BAL

I'd've preferred to do a bit better than this, but it's understandable. At least the team won 2 series in a row before going to Baltimore, where they were simply outmatched. Getting swept by them isn't surprising, especially since I was down my best pitcher.

    Bold denotes important development

It's good to see Lockhart continue to develop in the bigs despite his struggles, and I'm glad to see that Roloff is starting to get it back together. Maybe he can get some of those talent points back eventually.

    Sim Results:

5/15: W 6-4 vs. Cooperstown - Wade Miller gets the win, though his performance was far from spectacular, allowing 5 hits, 4 walks, and 2 runs (1 earned) in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Obviously he got himself out of a lot of jams. Melvin Mora decided to put a week worth of production (if not more) into this game, going 3-4 with 2 solo HR. Raines Jr. added a 2 RBI triple, and Duncan added an RBI single.
Player of the Game: Melvin Mora 3-4 2 HR 2 RBI
    Pitcher of the game: Chris Resop 2 2/3 IP 2 H 1 R 1 ER

5/16 L 5-0 vs. Cooperstown - The best start of Lockhart's young career thus far, Brock goes 6 2/3 allowing 2 hits, 5 walks, 3 runs (all earned) and strikes out 5, but with no run support, suffers the loss. Why no run support? Because the offense only got 4 hits, all singles, 2 of which came off the bat of Kirby Puckett, and 1 walk. 5 baserunners will never get the job done, especially when they're all starting on first base.
    Player of the Game: Brock Lockhart 6 2/3 IP 2 H 3 R 3 ER 5 BB 5 K
    Pitcher of the Game: Brock Lockhart 6 2/3 IP 2 H 3 R 3 ER 5 BB 5 K

5/18 W 3-0 vs. Boston - A well deserved win comes out of a great performance by Alex Graman, who pitched 6 2/3 of 2 hit shutout ball, walking 3 and striking out 6. The offense got out to a FAST start in this one, scoring all 3 runs in the first inning on three RBI singles by Raines Jr., Crede, and Doumit. After that, both offenses were stagnant for basically the whole game.
    Player of the Game: Alex Graman 6 2/3 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 3 BB 6 K W
    Pitcher of the Game: Alex Graman 6 2/3 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 3 BB 6 K W

5/19 L 7-4 vs. Boston - The first bad start of Chaz Roe's young career was this one, as he was only able to go 2 2/3 innings and allowed 4 runs (all earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks. The only positive for him in this game was that he struck out 4. The offense did decent in this one, ahving two players with multi-hit games and 4 XB hits, but it wasn't enough.
Player of the Game: Chris Duncan 2-4 3B, RBI, R
    Pitcher of the Game: Angel Moreno 4 IP 4 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 1 K

5/20 W 8-7 vs. Boston - Another bad start for Sunny Kim, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 10 hits. At least he struck out 5, didn't walk a batter, and ate 7 2/3 innings for me. Once again the offense came roaring out of the gate, scoring 3 runs in the first 3 innings, and proceeded to cool down in the middle of the game. Then, when the game looked to be over, a costly third error by Red Sox second baseman Kelly Johnson left the door open for the White Sox. With 2 out and the bases loaded, Magglio Ordonez charged through that door, hitting a bases clearing double to complete the 4 run 9th inning comeback. In the 10th inning the White Sox finished it off, pounding Boston reliever Dave Bush for 4 hits and getting the GW run.
Player of the Game: Magglio Ordonez 2-6 2B, 4 RBI, R
    Pitcher of the Game: Jason Isringhausen 1 IP 1 H 0 R 0 ER W

5/21: L 8-7 @ Baltimore - Well, the offense showed up for Brock Lockhart in this one, but he didn't. He allowed 6 runs (all earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4 in 3 innings. Speaking of the offense, 5 players drove in runs in this game, 4 had extra base hits, and the only player who started and didn't get a hit was Ryan Doumit. If only the offense and pitching could come to the ballpark on the same day, we might have something here.
Player of the Game: Joe Crede 2-3 HR, 2 RBI, R, 2 BB
    Pitcher of the Game: Billy Wagner 2 IP 0 H 0 R 0 ER 2 K

5/22: L 4-3 @ Baltimore - Amazingly, the Chicago White Sox took the Baltimore Bombers to extra innings. Even more amazingly, Wade Miller gets a quality start, going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs (all earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10. Unfortunately for him, the offense decided to take the day off, that is except for Magglio Ordonez, who hit 2 HR in the game.
Player of the Game: Magglio Ordonez 2-4 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
    Pitcher of the Game: Wade Miller 6 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 10 K

5/23: L 6-0 @ Baltimore - A decent start by Graman, who went 5 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks and struck out 7. That's about the only positive from the game, because the offense only got 5 hits, all singles, but at least they managed 4 walks this time. Horrible hitting with runners on and no extra base hits add up to a loss, especially against a team as good as the Bombers.
    Player of the Game: Billy Wagner 2/3 IP 0 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB
    Pitcher of the Game: Billy Wagner 2/3 IP 0 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB

    Sim Notes:

-Chaz Roe was injured for 1-2 weeks with a tight shoulder on 5/19. He will return on 5/29.

    Player of the Sim: Alex Graman 12 IP 6 H 3 R 2 ER 6 BB 13 K 1-1 record
    Pitcher of the Sim: Alex Graman 12 IP 6 H 3 R 2 ER 6 BB 13 K 1-1 record
