Cassel has the weapons to be decent. If Grossman a few years ago could put up half way decent numbers when his best weapon was Thomas Jones, there is plenty of hope for Cassel.

Cassel should be able to handle the job. He's had PLENTY of time to learn the system, but losing Brady ****ing HURTS... obviously. But this will show how much scrot this team has, can they man up and still play good football. I sure as hell think they can.

Cassell has better weapons now that Brady did in his fill in year. And maybe they will now start committing to damn run a little more with Maroney.

The Patriots barely beat the Chiefs sans Brady. THE CHIEFS.

The offense, yes. But the defense and the kicker are not as good as they were in Brady's fill in year. And like I said, those two were the biggest reason they won in 2001, not Brady and the offense...

The logic behind suggesting Cassel will do fine filling in for Brady because Brady did filling in for Bledsoe in 2001 is so flawed I don't know where to begin.

Re: Tom Brady Out for the Season

Tom Brady is officially done with his 2008 season. He is being placed on IR.

    On a lighter note:
The team will bring in quarterback Chris Simms for a workout Monday. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported the Patriots will also look at journeyman Tim Rattay.
    Tim Rattay

Here's something I didn't know that I find very interesting:
When the Patriots drafted Brady in the sixth round in 2000, the decision was between Brady and Rattay. The Patriots took Brady because he is taller (6 feet 4 to Rattay's 6 feet).
aren't they glad they made that decision...

No kicker will be better than Adam Vinateri. As for the defense, we can agree that aren't nearly as good.

Tim Rattay couldn't make it in the CFL IMO.

you're forgetting a little thing called the tuck rule...I think that played a huge role in them winning as well.

Not the point. The point is that the physical talent that gave them a championship was based in different areas of the team. The tuck rule remains the same.

Re: Tom Brady Out for the Season

point is they won that game because of that and it shouldn't have even applied to that. he already had the ball tucked away. Adam V would never have been the hero had it not been for that ruling. And you never said "these are the physical reasons why they won." All you said was those were the 2 reasons why they won. That ruling was also a reason they won whether or not that is something physical lol

Re: Tom Brady Out for the Season

But to get to the point were the tuck rule became "the tuck rule", they had to play a few games, and that is were the power of the defense in 2001 will prove to be the better than it is in 2008.

Remember it's week 1, we still got a lot of ball to play.

Re: Tom Brady Out for the Season

Brady did NOT already have the ball tucked away. If he did the controversial call would not have existed.

The reason why it was so controversial is because, while he had yet to "tuck" the ball back, it was obvious by his arm motion that he was not trying to pass the ball.

In short, he got away with it on a technicality, much like Vincent Jackson got away with a would-be costly fumble in the 2nd Chargers/Raiders game last year (or was it 2006?) when he made a "forward latteral" in a celebritory move after a catch.
