Federer has 6,600 ranking points to Nadal's 6,055. If Nadal can have a half-decent hard court season, he will take over #1 given that Federer has a ton of hard courts ranking points from last season to defend. Unless of course Federer wins in Canada, Cincinnati and New York. I'm not sure how the Olympics affects anything if at all.
With this momentum of the French Open and this, I think it's going to happen. I'd love for Roger to hold onto it though.

yea i believe the olympics don't count, it would be hard for federer to hold onto it...only way it happens is if Nadal's knee causes him problems

The olympics shouldn't affect the ranking because it is not affiliatted with the ATP or WTA. If Raffa can perform his usual consistent during the hard court season and outplay Fed at the US Open he could just take over the spot.
Nadal will not outplay Federer at the US Open.
