Agreed. It's not enough that they rip us off at purchase but the buy back is worse and yeah, when they change editions, forget it. One time I paid full price for a book that was an edition that they weren't even using any more because the teach forgot to tell the bookstore that he was using the newer edition. Buyback was $0.00. I put the book through the shredder and took it to the President in a gift back with a note saying, "thanks for the quality education." They weren't happy.....TFB...

I once jipped them back on my Music book. It came with a CD with classical tunes meant to go along with the book, and they are supposed to buy them back as a whole for 40 dollars. I got 40 for the book, and then another 40 for the CD. =D

ahhh, I wonder what my total would have been for the 6 years I went to college (4 undergrad, 2 grad)...

The funniesy sell-back exchange was when I tried to sell a used bio book back. They said, this is worth a quarter, so you can keep it. I said gee thanks, how come it didn't cost me a quarter then? It was over $30 IIRC.

When I went to college (back when some of you were still in diapers), I didnt pay a dime for my books. University of Wisconsin gave you the option. You could buy your books (for those who didn't want anyone else's germs or something) or you could check them out from the school bookstore, to be returned at the end of the semester.

Spending 300-500 dollars a semester or quarter on books is ****ing ridiculous. So for all of the left wingers out there who like to raise your hand in protest against "the man" and think you have more socialist views then the other side.... take a look at some of the guys/gals writing those books (aside from math and science) and see how many lefty college professors are writing those books. In public, they'll swear up and down against the evils of capitalism, yet they have no problem lining their own pockets on the backs of hardworking parents and kids who have to spend $75-100 dollars for ONE of their books. Hyprocrites.

(yes, I know I'm oversimplifying it, but it's true in some cases and just adds to how sickening the whole situation is for the price of college materials. Especially if you are even unfortunate enough to have to listen to some of these pig professors).

When yer right, yer right. I wouldn't call Pig Professors oversimplifying. I'd call it accurate. So many instructors I had, had no business being in charge of a classroom. Being narrow and closed-minded were widely accepted and encouraged states of being with too many of them. I was so unimpressed by some facets of my so-called education......

I'd like to compare buying books for college like paying for gas. I don't want to go bankrupt everytime I go to the bookstore or the gas station.

The key is to ask where the used book emporium is near your school. Also ask other students if they have a textbook you can buy. A number of books you can get through Amazon or somewhere else if you know in advance.

Get a job in a book store. Last couple of semesters I must have saved 200-300 dollars.

Well, I just finished ordering my books...Varsity Books had my total at around $260, but while still ordering all brand-new books, I made out with an extra $150.
