    Sad Having surgery on Tuesday

So the AF is finally making me get my wisdom teeth out. They have been telling me for the last 4 years that they need to come out. I kept saying yeah ok, they don't hurt so what's the big deal. Well come to find out that they are coming in sideways so I have no choice. All 4 at once, too.

I have to go get x-rays done on Monday, then fill out the paperwork. Tuesday morning is when the surgery takes place.

I know I should stock up on applesauce and pudding, and get a friend to drive me to Coldstone Creamery on a daily basis...but for those of you who have had this done, what did you do as far as food goes?

As far as entertaining myself, I plan on getting a couple new games for the XBOX, maybe a movie or seven, so I should be ok there.

Any other tips you want to throw out there?

I did the 4 at once thing as well, wasn't bad at all. The vikes help post-op, and after that, it's just an inconvenience having to clean the stitches and such. The pain is very manageable.

At least you can afford it on Uncle Sam's dime. I'm probably doomed to chewing on one side for eternity.

I did the 4 at once thing too, like General. It's not as bad as you think. For me, the first 24 hours after surgery were both painful, and I don't remember much because of all the drugs I got. After that, it was a piece of cake. You'll have no problem I'm sure

I too had all taken out at once, and like the others, it wasn't bad at all. You'll be sore and druggy feeling when you come home and you won't be able to eat solid foods for a couple of days, but its nothing intolerable. Have a lot of tissues as there will be bleeding on the first day and wherever you plan to sleep, cover it up with some towels as on that first day so you do not get any blood on it. If I think of more, I'll post them.

Maybe come to S3F to make some hilarious (for us) post-op posts.

i had mine taken out too (plus 2 others). The drugs will really help, don't be shy in taking them (I had T-4's they work great)

prepare a lot of gauze or ask to take a good amount

just listen to dentist on what to eat after, if don't you will end up puking

a popsicle helped to take my mind off the pain (they gave to me after i woke up), i just let in melt in mouth, just don't suck on it, no straws with drinks either

soft mushy foods are pretty much it

after a few days it will take a while to get used to crewing again but bear with it

icees too are nice (Minute Maid Soft Frozen Lemonades are nice too)

Get some comedies that can make u laugh to take your mind off the pain, def a new video game u can curse at too can help.

Take the pain killers cause they well... really do cut down the pain.

I had mine taken out 2 days before 8th grade and then was at the 1st day of classes (although they had to drill out part of the jaw to get mine) so u should be fine

I had mine taken out during a surgical precedure when I had my broken jaw. Wired shut for 4 weeks so I know the extreme of what you are gonna go through.
They also found 2 "extras" in there as well.
Needless to say I had dilaudid for the pain, and it worked really well.

Good meal replacement, bananas and milk in a blender. Tastes good and has all the good stuff you can think of,

I was knocked out and can't even remember anything that happened the day I got my wisdom teeth yanked. Somehow I wound up in bed much later that day. I could have been kidnapped by aliens or sold to Russia.

Yeah, the anesthetic will make you pretty loopy. I was lucky, didn't need pain stuff after that day. Make sure you use that little syringe to keep food out of the wounds.

Yeah. I have two teeth (literally) rotting out in my mouth (same side, too) by this point, because I only had half a root canal done and they were to send me to a specialist to finish it. Come to find out we owe this place a lot of money and it never happened really.

Sorry to be a downer in your post, but I think I'd love to have a few teeth pulled right now...

Good luck though. It shouldn't be too bad.

I don't remember what happened from the time I took the Vallium to the time I "woke" up in a McDonalds Drive Thru.

    Re: Having surgery on Tuesday

I had all 4 out at once. The 1st 3 were a piece of cake and came out real quick. The 4th however sucked and he needed to chip some of my jaw bone to get it out. One thing I would reccommend is now to take too high of a dose of the pain medication. There is nothing worse then having stitches in your mouth, packing, and vomitting at the same time. I went through that the first day home. It was awful.

Excited Re: Having surgery on Tuesday

Roxfan has a point. Codeine I've been fine with, but tramadol or ultram or one of those synthetic opiates (or whatever they're categorized as) made me really sick. And I know at some places they give you that shit now...
