First off.. let me say that I do appreciate that it is not some list fully populated with Best Picture winners and artsy fartsy bullshit...

That being said, I must say that there are a few on here that have me personally saying "What the hell?"... both on the artsy fartsy aspect and on the plain "You gotta be kidding me!" aspect...

Ghostbusters, Do the Right Thing, Sex Lies and Videotape, The Breakfast Club, My Left Foot, Glory, and Sophie's Choice would not even come close to top 500 on my list.. 1, maybe 2, could be considered amusing.. but none would be one that I would even stop channel surfing to catch a glimpse of when I would come across it.... horrible, HORRIBLE choices

Good to see that very underrated movies such as Blade Runner and Diner get some props....

But no Amadeus? No Rain Man? No Stand By Me? No Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? No Ferris Bueller's Day Off? No Scarface? No Nightmare on Elm Street?... IMHO those would HAVE to be in ANY top 80's movie list that crosses all categories

I couldn't agree with you more Dave. Spinal Tap was a great movie but absolutely not the 5th best movie of the decade. How ET isn't higher on that list is ****ing ridiculous.

Those you listed that were snubbed are all great movies that deserve to be on there, especially Scarface, FBDO, Amadeus, and Rain Man.

I'm in complete agreement with you that this list is just ridiculousness

Yeah... I do think Spinal Tap is a bit high... but better to see it high on the list than not on the list at all... the movie usually never gets any props except on Rock stations or VH1

I stopped reading this horseshit when I saw Ghostbusters was the very last movie at #40.

They got #1 right, that's all I care about.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Re: Moviefone's top 40 movies of the 80's

I think they gave a lot of props to movies that normal people enjoy.. which is a refreshing way of doing a 'best of' list... and it is great to see 'Raiders' get the respect it does on this list...

Hell.. .I am an 'Aliens' freak.. so I was certainly happy to see it on the list

Just because you look like Sloth does not make the Goonies a top 80's movie

Just because you like Dustin Hoffman is drag doesn't make the Goonies a bad movie. The Goonies was/is a great movie!!
