Re: Movies You've Seen This Year

Quick Synposis of everything I've seen release in 08, and watching Vicky Cristina Barcelona tonight...

    1. The Dark Knight **** as good as it gets
    2. Slumdog Millionaire **** masterpiece!
    3. The Wrestler *** ½ A powerful and heartbreaking story
    4. WALL-E *** ½ funny, quirky, satirical work of Pixar brilliance
    5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall *** ½ funniest Apatow production yet
    6. Quantum of Solace *** ½ Daniel Craig kicks ass
    7. Iron Man *** ½ fairly light and fun blockbuster, chemistry between Downey and Paltrow shines
    8. Hamlet 2 *** ½ the quirkiest movie of the year, Rock Me Sexy Jesus is worth the price of admission by itself
    9. W. *** ½ well-cast and intriguing look into George W. Bush’s life
    10. Pineapple Express *** ½ my 2nd favorite performance of the year by James Franco
    11. Curious case of Benjamin Button *** well-done but lacking an element of greatness
    12. Tropic Thunder (move up) *** not all of it sticks, but a great cast is hilarious when it does
    13. Cloverfield *** yes, PG-13 movies can still be scary, and the shaky camera is effective
    14. Appaloosa *** unconventional western with a great cast and some effective dialogue
    15. The Incredible Hulk *** Memo to Ang Lee: this is how the Hulk should be done
    16. Step Brothers *** so over-the-top, juvenile, and amateurish that it works
    17. Burn After Reading *** bizarre but entertaining, interactions between Pitt and Malkovich are hilarious
    18. Get Smart ** ½ if you like Steve Carell, you’ll like it
    19. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian ** ½ not bad with some unexpected humor but ultimately forgettable
    20. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ** biggest letdown of the year besides Harrison Ford – memo to George Lucas, please retire
    21. 21 ** mediocre Vegas wannabe
    22. Semi-Pro * ½ who knew Will Ferrell could be so unfunny?
    23. Strange Wilderness * really, really stupid

    Need To See:
Gran Torino, Milk, Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Rachel Getting Married, Man on Wire

    Probably Want To See:
Happy-Go-Lucky, The Visitor, In Bruges, Synecdoche New York, Let The Right One In

    Maybe:
    Revolutionary Road, Valkyrie

I heard Valkyrire was mediocre. Apparently Tom Cruise was too big for the part, and ruined the feel of the movie.

Because the main character, although sort of dorky, pulls off being a complete bad ass.

Though I wouldn't rank it above The Dark Knight, it was still a great movie.

I only saw a handful of movies in theaters this past year..

    The Dark Knight
    Twilight
    Forgetting Sarah Marshall
You Don't Mess With the Zohan(hahaha..horrible)
    Kung Fu Panda

    BUT..

I saw more movies this past year in general than I have in any other year of my life.

It was a good movie. I didn't read the books, though, but my girlfriend and her friends all said it wasn't as good as the book, but was still good.

They have to get a new Jacob for the next movie, though.
