While I agree with your base point those examples (outside of boybands) aren't fair examples.

There's practical reasoning that can argue why fascism, slavery, and communism aren't good, despite propaganda campaigns making them popular.

Movies are a matter of opinion.

Pointing out that horrible ideas used to be popular thanks to bad upbringings and propaganda proves nothing in regards to things that are subject to opinion.

Slavery is a bad idea, that's a fact.

Whether or not Wall-E is good is a matter of the opinion of the viewer, no matter how much Providence A's agrees or disagrees.

But your point is invalidated because you cited examples that can be proven to be bad, whereas the subject at hand (Wall-E) can't be proven to be good or bad, because that's a matter of the viewer's opinion.

The only thing we can say is the majority of the movie-going audience obviously felt it was worth paying for.
