Video Editing?

Alright so I'm trying to figure out how to edit movies but I'm not sure what movie editing program is the best..The Windows movie editor is pretty good but I was wondering if there was a better one. Also, how come when I plug my camera in to the computer why does it not show up? It says that my camera isn't plugged in but it is so I don't know maybe I need a different cord...Thanks to anyone that can help me.

Ok so first, to edit the movie you hook up your camera to the cpu with a Firewire cord...if you have an iPod, it's pretty similar to that. Second, when I edit on Windows, I like to use a movie maker by Sony...Vegas er something like that. You'd have to go and buy it at a Fry's or Circuit City type place. But I normally make movies on my Mac, and for that I use only the best - Final Cut Pro (and on rare occasions iMovie).
