World series was best of 9?
Got a question for the peanut gallery. I am currently watching the movie 8 Men Out and before I got started in the movie, I decided to go look up some stats on the 1919 World Series and noticed something kinda/sorta odd. Why and how did the Reds win the series 5 games to 3? As of when does the WS go to 8 games?
So I went to looking, 1917 and 1918, 4 games won the series. But 1919-1921 the series was won in 5 games but after that, it went back to 4 wins to take the trophy. So does that mean the series was best-of-nine for a couple of years?
Just curious

Yeah, for a while it was a 9 game series, I think the first few were after the original also.

Why'd did they only use 9 games for 2 seasons?
Test run gone bad?

Well, the more I've thought about it, the more it rings a bell, but I blame dead and long forgotten brain cells for the lack of remembrence.
However, that doesn't answer the question why did they do it and why did they revert back so quickly?
