    April 19th Movie Pick 'Ums

Sorry for the delay. Same as usual, back to one point though.

    American Dreamz
Starring: Dennis Quaid, Hugh Grant, Mandy Moore, Willem Dafoe, and Marcia Gay Harden
    Theatres: 1,450
Things to Know: Yeah this is some black-comedy blah blah poking fun at that very fact more idiots vote in the American Idol babbly bullshit than they do in the Presidential Election. While that is just a great concept, and Quaid- Grant- Dafoe- Harden give this some acting cred, unfortunately Mandy Moore's films have been mostly bottomed out grossers. A Walk to Remember was her only real breakout, Saved! actually was pretty good and had good reviews, but wasn't in many theatres. This movie seems to be dragging on theatres too. Also note Paul Weitz is doing this film, and he did swell with American Pie, In Good Company, and About a Boy.

    The Sentinel
Starring: Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva Langoria, Kim Basinger
    Theatres: little over 2,600
Things to know: Um, well. It looks decent, yes, but I'm going to take a guess that one of those other actors listed above are the real American traitor, not Douglas' character, and there's going to be some plot twist at the end and blah blah blah, seen it done it who cares. The cast is strong, but I'm betting Sutherland and Langoria stick to more TV work after this.

    Silent Hill
Starring: Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, and Kim Coates
    Theatres: almost 3,000
Things to know: Bean is the most recognizable actor here, and I don't even think he's a villain. WHOA SHOCKER. The cast is pretty used to horror films and thrillers. Ok, Silent Hill. The game. Jesus did the original scare the piss out of me. It's hard to keep me from expecting something fairly scary here, that doesn't happen anymore, but since I loved the game more than the shoot 'em bloodfest known as Resident Evil... maybe. And that county in West Virginia you'll see in trailers.. does not exist. However, the real Silent Hill, minus demons and what not, is in Centralia, Pa.

Hard choice this week, as any of the three could concievably win.

I went with Silent Hill, because the more amount of theatres, and the fact that Michael Douglas hasn't been a draw since the mid 90's.

Oh yeah, and I didn't even know who Sean Bean was(despite seeing almost all of his movies) until I saw National Treasure. Hence, I would've recognized Radha Mitchell(from Phone Booth) and DK Unger(from The Game) on the cast before him. Cute, eh?

I hate to go against a movie in 400 more theaters, but I think it'll be close for Keifer

    holler for Silent Hill

TriStar Pictures' Silent Hill topped the box office with an estimated $20.2 million from 2,926 theaters. Directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) and written by Roger Avary, the film stars Radha Mitchell as a mother who has to search for her daughter in an eerie and deserted ghost town. "Hill" is based on the popular Konami video game. Sony's TriStar paid $14 million for the rights to distribute the movie in North America, and will break even in the mid-$20 million range.
The Sentinel made over 14 million
    American Dreamz made 3.7 million
