Rays Iwamura out for the year

He tore ligaments in his knee, he's knocked out for the rest of the season. Despite no power so far this season, he's a spunky guy perfect for the rays, so he'll obviously be missed.

CLEVELAND -- Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Iwamura was injured trying to turn a double play in the eighth inning Sunday against the Florida Marlins and was carted off the field.
He will have surgery after the swelling goes down, according to Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
The infielder is in his third season with the Rays after playing in Japan's Central League. In 44 games, Iwamura was hitting .310 (48-for-155) with no home runs, 16 RBIs and eight stolen bases in nine attempts.

I hope Chris Coughlin gets some harsh discipline for this. That was a very, very dirty slide. He didn't even try to slide. He just tried to literally take out Iwamura's knees. Just not classy baseball at all. What a dick. I hate seeing things like this.

That's just good old fashion baseball. Coghlan did his job of taking him out and was able to touch the base. Its just a bummer Iwamura was hurt on the play and now out for the year. Rays have plenty of bench and looks like Zobrist will get a lot more playing time.

I agree. He was within the rules, dirty or not.
