Food for thought on Mr. Skirt Shelling

Is Curt Schilling a hall of famer because of his bloody sock, his mouth, his performance. Here are some numbers for Schilling fans that i thought would be of use to you on judging his status on the HOF. I myself have just found a few more hall of famers that we never thought about. Anyway:

    Schilling:
    W-190 L-131 ERA 3.40 CG 82 K 2814 WS 2

    Pettitte:
    W-171 L-91 ERA 3.79 CG 23 K 1510 WS 4

    David Cone:

    W-193 L-126 ERA 3.46 CG 56 K 2668 WS 3

    Jimmy Key:

    W-186 L-117 ERA 3.51 CG 34 K 1538 WS 3

    Mussina

    W-211 L-119 ERA 3.59 CG 54 K 2258 WS 0 (this year) lol

And when has he ever been the best starting pitcher on a playoff team? Never.

He had his big moments, world series wise, but I don't think he's on the top of anyone's future HoF ballots.

Curt Schilling isn't a Hall of Famer.

However, Curt Schilling was the best pitcher on the Red Sox in 2004.

And on that list, I'd take him over everyone except maybe Mussina and that's close.

Still not a Hall of Famer. Funny thing, based on complete careers, his ERA+ (which is adjusted for era as Koufax played in a heavy pitching era while Schilling played in a heavy offensive) is only slightly worse than Koufax's, their personal ERA from the league's ERA (the difference) is eerily close. Of course, I'm getting off topic now.

I would certainly take him over that list of pitchers as well too. And he may not have been the best pitcher on the DBacks win they won it all, but he was every bit as dominate as the Big Unit. If there was no Schilling, there would have been no championship for Arizona.

The consensus here seems to be that Schilling is NOT a Hall of Famer, so how could Smoltz be? Schilling's had a better career than Smoltz, imo.

About today's game between Smoltz and Clemens:
"Two Hall of Famers going at it," said Atlanta manager Bobby Cox.
    Eh...not sure about that, Bobby.

Schilling obviously isn't a Hall of Famer, as most people who aren't Skip Bayless believe.

Smoltz is a tougher case. If he gets in, it's on the Eckersley line, since although Smoltz hasn't had remotely the longevity as a reliever, he was (is) a vastly superior starter.

Although I agree that Schilling is no HOFer, I believe he will get in, be it by the vote, or the Veterans Committee. He's got a lot of "mystique" following him, the Bloody Sock, the AZ/NY performance... I just, for some reason, see him getting in.
