    MLB Washburn dealt to Tigers

Reported on MLB Network about 10 minutes ago.

Jarrod Washburn dealt to Tigers for LH Lukas French and LH Mauricio Robles.

From what Ive heard its one of the good deals for both. Im happy with who they got and this was needed. They are fading and it reminds me of the 2007 Mariners.

Interesting trade. I don't know anything about the guys the M's got, but I think in the end, the M's had to trade Washburn, and I got the sense the Yankees weren't going to give in to their demands.

    Confirmed on Rotoworld.com and ESPNMobile...

Hard to believe the M's didn't get more here...they were asking for Jesus Montero from the Yankees, who may be a product of Yankee hype, but he's still a great catching prospect. Neither of these guys are can't miss, by any means.

I wish I knew that answer. But they are pretty sure the weren't resigning Washburn despite his great season so far. Buying or Selling, they couldnt have Ronny Cedeno at SS. Garrett Olson is better for the pen then as a starter which is why they acquired Snell in the 1st place. While they are 8 back the team as it stands are not catching the Angels or the Rangers. Not today, not tomorrow, not anytime in 2009.

Rumor had it they ORIGINALLY asked for Hughes or Joba. I think in the end, they realized the Yankees weren't giving up anything of value, and they took the best deal they could get...

Washburn is a solid pitcher but hes not on Lee's or Halladay's level when it comes to body of work talent. We got something for Washburn despite his 9.8 Million dollar salary. I wished they got a bat in the deal to go with French. We have enough catchers in Tacoma in Adam Moore and Jamie Burke. So Jesus Montero would have been in a major logjam. The question becomes will they trade Johjima to give Moore time in the ML.

Heh, you guys still consider Jamie Burke worth a roster spot? One would've thought you would've given up by now. Especially over a top prospect like Montero. The Yankees weren't giving him up for a rent-a-player anyway.

Robles got a nice review from Rotoworld...90-94 MPH fastball, chance to be a lefty closer...not bad at all.

Burke is good in a pinch, but the M's have big faith in Rob Johnson and Adam Moore is a solid player still. We need guys at other positions.

    Re: Washburn dealt to Tigers

Witlon, the Yankees were never gonna give up Montero for Washburn. Most reports said that the Yankees wouldn't give Joba, Hughes, Montero, or Austin Jackson in ANY deal unless they were getting Halladay or MAYBE Lee...

    Re: Washburn dealt to Tigers

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mariners told the Yankees they had to give up an Austin Jackson-type player for Jarrod Washburn, who was dealt to Detroit.
The Brewers were told they'd have to surrender Manny Parra, Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel for Washburn, Sherman reports.
Thank god Cashman didn't bite on that Austin Jackson request.

The M's really asked for a lot here from some teams. Probably why they didn't end up with as much as they hoped. I've never been a supporter of asking for top talent when you know you can't get it. It doesn't help talks at all.
