    Bedard for Jones and more

I figured I would make a thread in here for the M's as well. Some of you guys aren't happy about this though.

I can see that point of view, but to be honest, you guys are in great shape for contention now. Bedard kills would be hitters. He did it in the AL ast and dominated.

What is not to like? Well, he has never pitched 200 innings and has had injury problems. The future has been mortgaged and we don't even know what the package is that is going to Baltimore. But, Bedard and King Felix sounds like a wonderful tandem.

Bedard and Felix are going to be fun to watch. Except for when they play the Yankees.

Yep, many teams are fearing that combo as we speak. The Angels just got a bit nervous today.

Yeah but the Angels have a potent OF that is going to be able to contend with their pitching. Now that will be fun to watch.

Keep in mind though, Bedard dominated in the same division as the Yankees and BoSox and Blue Jays and the Rays offense was no slouch either.

See I still can't disagree with you man. I didn't want to see Jay Bruce get dealt for Bedard either. So I know where you are coming from. So when I look at it that way, I see where you are at with this.

Either way though, you guys look good this season now and I have to congratulate you on that. Maybe Bavasi goes after a bat to fill Jones void?

Supposedly the M's offered Brad Wilkerson a 1 year deal. But its either

Baletien - who is Jones without speed
    Jeremy Reed- A Defensive Specialist

    or

The Seattle Times says the Mariners and Brad Wilkerson have agreed to a one-year deal, pending the Erik Bedard trade.
It the deal falls through and Adam Jones stays, then Wilkerson may resume looking elsewhere. Otherwise, he would be the Mariners' best free-agent option to fill the hole in right field.
Now the M's are just praying it goes through. Wilkerson isn't a real risk on a one year deal. He provides some pop and defense but I wouldn't expect too much in that ballpark.

I would be better served to see Balentien over Wilkerson in RF if that deal goes through

I don't mind the jones trade that much, but now I agree, I'd like to see Balentien get the majority of the starts. Its not like Wilkerson is much of a stud and the Mariners need a little offensive juice.

Listening to most "experts" in Seattle. Its most likely that Wilkerson will get a the majority of the starts for the M's.

Probably will project to a .255/.330/.430 hitter. 20 HRs, and maybe 70-80 rbis.

20 HRs while playing mostly in Safeco is giving him the benefit of the doubt. I see Balentien starting right away or at least after April.

i have to give a lot of credit to the Mariners' front office though, because if you're always thinking about the future, you'll never win now. Sometimes you have to mortgage some of your future if you want to get that one piece that you think will give you the edge. However, the Mariners need offense. Badly.

Re: Bedard for Jones and more

What i don't get is you have a damn good potential starter in Brandon Morrow. You send him down to winter league to START. Then you go out and trade for an injury-prone yet talented starter in Bedard and move Morrow back to the bullpen. You already had a potential good to great starter and you're messing up his development. Then you trade the guy you had in your system for five years to develop and could have put a better output than the FA signing you just made. Seattle is notorious for dealing prospects and never really think about the future. You had your starter if you stayed patient, a right fielder that is going to be a damn good ML starter. Why make this deal, I still don't get it.
