Bochy said he plans to go with an 11-man staff, but his biggest choice on the pitching side will be selecting a No.4 starter from Barry Zito and rookie Madison Bumgarner.
Zito is 1-6 with a 6.06 ERA over his past seven starts and he infuriated the ballpark in the first inning Saturday when he nibbled for two bases-loaded walks in a loss to the San Diego Padres. Zito is winless in 13 road starts since May 5, too -- and that looms as an issue, since the Nos. 3-4 starters would pitch at Atlanta.
But Zito actually had one of his best starts of the season in a no-decision Aug. 6 at Turner Field, striking out 10 while holding the Braves to two runs on four hits in seven innings. He is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in five career starts against the Braves.
